I put these on my hardtail so I can just ride around the neighborhood with my kids, but I can still clip in for trail riding without changing anything. Has worked fine for me. I find the clipping the same as my 785 trail pedals. Sure they're heavy, but why would you put these on a race bike?

I bought these pedals for my commuter, and I'm happy to have the option to ride clipless or with street shoes. That said, I wouldn't necessarily call these pedals the best of both worlds, as the platform side is barely grippy enough. Some commenters mentioned struggling to find the right side of the pedal, however I felt like this was not a problem, as my feet could feel whether I was on the right side. If you lift the foot off the upside-down pedal, the rotation of the cranks will flip the pedal for you, and when you put your foot back down, it will be right-side-up! Granted, it is another thing to think about, but you don't need to take your eyes off the road. I wouldn't tell anyone to stay away from these, but I have my eye on pedals with more grip on the platform side if I were to get this kind again.

Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

This is a great pedal for anyone who does more than one kind of riding. The cliplessside is smooth and relyable with adjustable float tension for finicky riders like me. The platform side is comfortable with a convenient groove that fits the ball of your foot so your don't slide around too much. The pedals stay in position when you take your foot off so you don't have to keep flipping them to the right side, which I like, and you can also install them using a pedal wrench OR allen key for convenience. The only downside is that they are quite heavy, otherwise great product!

    Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

I use this pedal for my mountain bike and I like its versatility. It is easy to clip in and clip out and you just flip the pedal to use either the clipless or the normal platform depending on the terrain. It looks good and the weight is fine for me. But I think there is still room for improvement on the platform side because I could still feel a slip sometimes and due to this, I can't give it a 5 star rating.

I use it to commute to and from work. The platform side is as good as a Peddledab platform adapters and won't fall off when you are in a sprint like Peddledabs.

          Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

We're only casual riders, but find clipless pedals a necessity on our recumbent bikes and trikes where the pedals are as high or higher than the seats. The A530's are reasonably priced and do the job for us. I know there are lighter pedals, but we're not "weight watchers", so there was no reason to pay more for the "exotic stuff". JENSON shipping was speedy and free.

They are my first pair of clipless pedals, I have used them a couple of times and the feeling is great, easy to clip on and clip off. Great for short rides or rides were you don't want to clip in the platform is comfortable to use with any shoes.

              Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

Best of both worlds for a clipless beginner. The non-SPD side is a little slippery, but works fine. Also, the black finish scratches easily.

I love these pedals. I've been using them on my street/commuter bike. Great for commuting because I can clip in on the SPD side with riding shoes for more efficient pedaling or make a run to the pub wearing just my casual shoes. I liked them so much I bought a pair for my gf's binge except in silver. For the price they gets the job done and look pretty nice while doing it!

I really like the option of wearing regular shoes or clicking in. Pedal feels really solid under foot thanks to it's slightly elongated shape.

                    Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

Great Pedals. Transitioned from ClickR' pedals to PD-A530s. The 530s are easy to click in and click out but not to the level of the ClickR' pedals. I would prefer that Shimano reduce the tension on the 530s to make it easier to unclip closer to the ClickR' pedals. For new users of clipless pedals I strongly recommend the ClickR' Setup. If you have experience with clipless pedals then the A530s are a great choice.

I bought these to put on my LHT I have another set on my road bike and I love the versatility of being able to wear clipless or normal shoes. Sometimes I just want to cruise up to the market or to the local watering hole and just want to be casual and they allow me to do this and then be able to clip in for my weekly rides without having to change pedals or ride a different bike. I'm a fan.
