Most expensive part I had to purchase for my spare/bad-weather bike restoration project. 40% discount at JensonsUSA helped to swallow that bitter pill. Shimano 105 is the way to go for training and even racing if you are on a budget.
I like the size adjustment shims and the under the bar tape routing of the cables. My 5 years old racing bike is equipped with Ultegra sifters with hidden shifter cables and exposed brake cables (housings). The 105 allowes for under the tape routing of both with an end result of a very tidy look.
Not much else to say about this product. It does what it is expected to do and does it flawlessly.
Four stars for high satisfaction/no complains at all. As usual, 5 stars are reserved for something extraordinary.

I've used a lot of different shimano groups including 3 different modern (sti) iterations of 105. That being said, the internal cable routing through the base of the hoods was a mistake. I know it looks better, and cleans up the bar area, but it shifts noticeably worse than 5600 did. The brake action is fine if not a little improvide as they did change the levers a bit to grant more leverage from higher on the levers, but that's about it.

The addtional cable routing into the hood base makes for a very wide area for your palm to rest on, which can feel unnatural and uncomfortable at times. This is something I got used to over time, though.

I also had the rear shifter completely stop shifting. 5 minutes with boeshield resolved the shifting issue, I do a lot of gravel riding on this rig, so that is probably the culprit.

All in all, I would not buy these shifters again.

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

When set up properly, 105 is no different than Ultegra/Durace aside from weight (and price). Smooth, Crisp, reliable shifting! No need to upgrade from here, unless you have a wallet burning a hole in your pocket!

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

Replaced my 105 5600 brifters on my cummuter with these and shifting is so much smoother, its just like butta! Especially when shifting to the smaller cogs. I mainly upgraded for the internal routing for a cleaner look, but the performance aspect was well worth the money. Only gripe is the I can only downshift 2 gears as opposed to 3 on the 5600.

I bought these shifters as part of a touring bike build. I was impressed by the quality of the 105 components and how they delivered shifts comparable to Ultegra at a lower price point. A little more challenging to install, but OK once setup correctly.

Comments about Shimano 105 ST-5700 Road Shift/Lever Set:

Since I'm notoriously cheap, I hung on to my 8-Speed 105 gear from 14 years ago despite having to tear them apart regularly. I bought a KMC chain and a 11-28 105 cassette. I went carefully with this upgrade, and everything was included in the pack. My recently upgraded detailers, crank, and wheels were all compatible. My older 105 brakes seem uncooperative with these levers, and from what I understand, the new brakes are calibrated to the new levers. My old Modolo bars are too short on the drops with the levers, meaning that I'll end up re-wrapping a new bar sooner than later.

My adjustments were almost spot-on, and a few limit adjustments and I was ready to ride. Almost perfect shifting with the first ride...

To me, 105 offers best price/performance package for what was only a mid-level frame...but w/Reynolds 431 and beautiful cast lugs...something worth saving.
