I shopped for a shoe for a while. I've had several brands before, but never owned a Shimano shoe. This is my first pair and I am fairly impressed. For the price that Jenson sells this shoe, it is definitely worth it. I've put plenty of miles on the shoes already and I tend to forget that I have clipless shoes on after I get to my destination and start walking around. This is a good feeling as they are comfortable enough to walk around in the city as well as trails. I also feel that the shoe is well ventilated. Some shoes I've owned have relied heavily on mesh and my feet would get too dry or cold, however these I haven't had a problem with. I'm sure I'll have a better opinion when the winter months come. In any case, this shoe compares to more expensive leather or race shoes. Then again, I err in the side of comfort. They are not as heavy as I was lead to believe in people's reviews. I love them and that's all that matters.

I purchased these shoes to replace an old pair of SIDIs and am dissapointed with their durability. After 5 rides total, chunks of the sole are missing and there are several deep gouges that will likely lead to more missing chunks. The shoes are very comfortable but the sole is too soft for rocky environments. These would be ideal for commuting or smooth terrain trails. I would not recommend these to a friend.

Another nice shoe from Shimano. The front Velcro doesn't synch down as tight as I would like other than that very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Shimano M162 SPD Shoes:

After a couple of rides, I can give the M162 4 stars. Coming from a lace up Shimano shoe, this is a big improvement for me. Much snugger fit and so far the construction seems sturdier. I have a narrow foot and to me the toe box seems proportionally wider than the rest of the shoe. I just crank down on the toe closure and that seems to take care of it. Shoe is lighter than I was expecting for a "trail" shoe and is less bulky as well. At the current price, this a great buy for the avid recreational trail rider.

Cleats fit both my mountain and road bike. Since the shoes are new and breaty, I will use them first mostly with my road bike.

Size was Europe 47, US 11.8. My walking shoes are Europe 45.5, US 12. I would like to see a consistent conversion.

Comments about Shimano M162 SPD Shoes:

Good shoe, comfortable but toe area where black overlaps come up over the tops of your toes separated after a 45 mile ride. There is a part of the toe that is stitched but the black material that folds over the tops of the toe peeled off of the white stitched area. Disappointing but have super glued it back on both shoes (the right shoe taking the biggest damage).

I wouldn't recommend this shoe unless you can get it at a low price. Thought Shimano would be a durable shoe. They won't be bad for training, they just are not a high quality shoe.
