I would love to ride my Trek Madone with its Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals full-time. Alas, my age has caught up with me...I am no longer agile enough to unclip fast enough on busy local streets. After one-too-many painful and embarrassing falls it was clearly time for a change. With the A530s I can still clip-in on long, unobstructed rides and use the platform side on stop-and-go city streets. I'm using the A530s on my Trek 7500 Hybrid as well.

I bought these pedals for my commuter, and I'm happy to have the option to ride clipless or with street shoes. That said, I wouldn't necessarily call these pedals the best of both worlds, as the platform side is barely grippy enough. Some commenters mentioned struggling to find the right side of the pedal, however I felt like this was not a problem, as my feet could feel whether I was on the right side. If you lift the foot off the upside-down pedal, the rotation of the cranks will flip the pedal for you, and when you put your foot back down, it will be right-side-up! Granted, it is another thing to think about, but you don't need to take your eyes off the road. I wouldn't tell anyone to stay away from these, but I have my eye on pedals with more grip on the platform side if I were to get this kind again.

Cons

Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

Good for both purposes, the platform is a bit slippery but it beats the fact you can also go clipless if you desire so.

    Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

This is my second set. I bought the first set for an old touring bike, and liked them so much that the choice was easy when I recently purchased a new carbon fiber road bike. I was glad to find them offered in black with Jenson; not all retailers carry both colors. These pedals are very easy to clip into and offer the ability to safely pedal without clipping in. Great value!

    Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

This is my first set of clipless pedals. I bought these as they can be used with both clipped cycling shoes and regular shoes for short rides. They are a bit on the heavy side. The flat side is a bit slippery with little grip so one has to be a bit careful when using this side with regular shoes. As this is my first pair of such pedals I have still to get comfortable using them with clipped cycling shoes.

Bought these on recommendation from a cycling friend. They are very good quality, easy to install, and seem to be great so far (only 2 rides). I did opt to upgrade over the standard clips and purchased the multi release clips.

          Comments about Shimano PD-A530 Pedals:

I am newer to the cycling game. Recently moved to Oregon and bought a 2016 Fuji touring bike to begin my bike camping/touring enterprises throughout the Pacific Northwest. I bought these pedals because I liked the idea of being able to clip in for long rides or wear street shoes for running errands around town. These Shimano pedals have a great design that blends perfectly with my new bike! Highly recommended for riders who like options!
