SIDI needs no introduction when it comes to pro-worthy performance and serious comfort for the most ambitious riders. The Drako MTB shoes are loaded with features and are everything you'd expect in a pro-level cross-country shoe. It starts with the Microfibra TechPro construction. Microfibra TechPro is an Italian made, eco-friendly leather that flaunts resiliency, stability, lightness, and a touch of water repellency.
Looking to the interior, SIDI's Soft Instep Closure System provides a wide, anatomically curved, adjustable strap that can be set to perfectly fit the instep on your foot. SIDI's Techno-3 PUSH System allows you to dial in the fit along the entire length of the shoe, and makes it easy to adjust while riding, thanks to an innovative button which can be pushed to lift the buckle and facilitate the adjustment. By using new proprietary wire materials, SIDI was able to offer an effortless, customized fit with no binding.
To hone further in on the perfect fit and comfort, an adjustable heel retention device reinforces the top of the heel cup, improving the fit of the Drako MTB shoes by ensuring the back on the shoe is secured snugly around the heel to prevent your heel from sliding around when climbing or sprinting, which can cause blisters and a loss of power transfer. This reinforced cup not only keeps the foot in optimal position, but it also prevents the shoe from being deformed by repeated pedal mashing.
The secret to the Drako's impressive weight is owed to its Suola MTB SRS Carbon-Ground sole which sheds 100 grams per pair compared to the previous Dragon Carbon SRS sole, and without sacrificing stiffness. The MTB SRS CARBON-GROUND SOLE consists of replaceable tread blocks in the toe and heel that are attached to a medium-modulus carbon sole. This carbon sole is protected by an innovative Replaceable MTB Plate that is designed to prevent sole damage from pedal contact, and can be easily removed and replaced.

Soft Instep 3 System: a wide, anatomically curved strap combined with a soft, thermo-formed EVA pad that distributes pressure evenly over the instep area

If you crash and land on the top of your foot enough to worry about breaking a buckle on your shoe then maybe you should take up another sport. As for the soft rubber tread, it's soft so you have traction, which is sort of the point. I'd rather have soft rubber that wears out (and can be replaced as needed) but makes it easy for hike-a-bike rocky sections or cross racing than some lasts-forever hard plastic crap that offers no traction and nothing more than something for your pedal to rest on.
I bought these for 400 after drooling for a while and finally wearing through my 5 year old mid-level Sidis. I wanted the full boa because the sidi velcro straps are the worst & eventually would not hold despite cleaning. I wanted the replaceable treads because unreplaceable ones are the other reason i needed new shoes. Frankly Sidis are overpriced and overrated. Italy shitaly. These soles are great, i can feel the extra power compared to my other shoes. The heel cup is good and you dont slip. The boas need to be tightened once after 5 minutes of riding. Whats stupid is these are the most expensive shoes you or your wife will ever buy, and then you trudge through mud, rocks and rivers. You will ruin them and then never spend this much again. These are race day only shoes, so do you need to blow 400 or 500? Now the issues. The new version of this shoe has both boas on top. Thats because one bad crash will rip these side mounted ones off or render them unusable. So now you have to ride like a puss just for your shoes. But dont worry, the boas become fickle soon enough crash or not. They dont want to snap shut, they just keep opening when you close them. Its maddening, and for 400 or 500. Lastly, the replaceable treads are soft rubber instead of hard plastic. So you WILL be replacing them annually for as long as those boas last. Sidi was considered the best, but the competition has caught up and make equal or better quality for less money. Leaving the arrogant Italian stalwart resting on its laurels, charging top dollar for parts that fail long before the shoe part of the shoe wears out. Dont be suckered, the hundred dollar discount is to run out of this regrettable boa design. Meanwhile competitor models are better for 50 - 100 less.
