Spank Oozy Trail 295 27.5" Wheelset
The versatile Spank Oozy Trail 295 27.5" Wheelset is a dynamite new wheelset from Spank Industries. The Oozy Trail 295 is a rock-solid All Mountain / Enduro wheelset that boasts an impressive combination of strength and minimal weight. Using their new Dynamal alloy composition, Spank crafted the Oozy rims to offer the ultimate in rigidity. Dynamal is a dynamically aged, highly magnesium-silicon enriched, pure alloy, which is blended with a special secret hardened metal. Compared to statically aged traditional alloys, Dynamal shows a significant increase in tensile strength and yield. The Oozy Trail 295 features a Bead Bite design that utilizes three small ridges in the rim wall to ensure a firm seal between the tire and rim, allowing you to run extra-low pressures and virtually eliminating burping and sloppy tire movement when cornering. The Oozy's lightweight yet sturdy rims are laced to a pair of smooth spinning hubs that can come stock in a 15mm front and 12x142mm rear configuration and can be converted to 20mm front axle with the included adapter kit. This impressive wheelset is hand-built, trued, and poised to send you speeding down the trail.

Install wasn't too bad. By tubeless ready, they must mean you will need to tape them up. I used Stan's 25mm tape. Went on ok even with the odd rim shape. The Maxxis Ardent EXO TR I mounted on the rear was a snug fir, but went on and aired up with a floor pump easily. The performance line (oem) Hans Dampf I put on the front, though, was super tight and almost didn't go on. Once on, it didn't want to air up. Even with a compressor I had to have the core out to get it to seal. But once on the tire held air just fine.
Other than that install was easy. No issues getting them in the frame. :)
On the trail these have done exactly what I wanted. Normally I run 28f/30r for my pressures. I really wanted to get down to at least the low-mid 20s to increase cornering grip. I tend to be sensitive to squirm so went with these wheels as a way to get that low pressure without any float. The first ride I did 24f/26r. It worked great. PRd a downhill by a significant amount because of the cornering confidence. In fact, I got a whole bunch that ride and this was on a trail I have ridden 100s of times. Wheels feel stiff, light, and responsive. Second ride I lowered the pressure to 22f/24r. Still no squirm or rim strikes and I was pinniing it through some decent chunk, so I am thinking I can go even lower. Went even faster this ride.
The hubs aren't super high POE but the 30 points of engagement are an improvement over my last set and help with the technical climbs I have done. Sound is pretty nice to. Good deeper buzz, but not too loud at all.
So far I am super happy with the purchase. they are lighter, stiffer, wider and higher POE than the stock Jalco XM 420s that came with my Troy and I have gotten down to the pressures I was looking for and have gotten much improved cornering performance as a result.
I will post back about longevity if it is an issue.
