In true Spank Spike Race style, the Vibrocore has been meticulously designed, stringently tested, and continually refined for going big. Constructed of Spank’s Super-6 Aluminum, the Spike 800 Race Vibrocore handlebar implements Spank’s XGT Dual technology to create an incredibly precise and consistent wall thickness throughout the entire bar, something that wouldn’t be achievable with traditional bending and hand-grinding processes. Through a combination of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and real world testing, Spank was able to home in on high stress areas and implement their CNC Bending to optimize wall thickness throughout the bends and eliminate any unnecessary filler material that would simply weigh down the bar. Through Spank’s Micro Grain Refinement (MGR) process, proprietary metal forming methods are carried out to reduce grain size, and improve consistency and orientation for greater resilience and ductility, meaning more confidence and comfort for crushing the course.
Where the Spike Vibrocore steps into the limelight is through its Impulse and Fatigue Dampening System. Vibrocore is an intricate, low density foam material which fills the core of the handlebar, reducing the frequency, amplitude, and extent of energy waves (vibration), while only adding a minuscule 25 grams. Not only does the low density of the Vibrocore hinder the transfer of energy, but as energy waves cross material boundaries from high density to low density, they are deflected in different directions reducing their ability to build on one another or sustain vibrational frequencies. Brilliantly, Vibrocore also serves as reinforcement, meaning more stiffness and responsiveness. Spank has truly gone the extra miles to create a bar that’s designed to meet the extreme demands of gravity riding.
