Spot Rollik 557 Frame

Full Suspension Meets Simple Ingenuity and Elegant Design

The Spot Rollik 557 dual suspension frame is a quite the surprise coming from a brand built on simplicity and function. Add to that the introduction of the revolutionary “Living Link” suspension system and we have “Living Proof” that the guys over at Spot simply enjoy bikes and have entered into a selfish endeavor of increasing the amount of fun to be had on two wheels. That is just fine with us because we’ll all reap the benefits of such behavior.

Living Link suspension actually reflects the Spot brand quite well by providing us with a much simpler and more durable version of a lower rocker. They have replaced the rocker with a stiff carbon fiber leaf spring that is said to outlast the components it replaces by leaps and bounds. It also promises a solution to the complicated conundrum of wanting a stable climbing platform while still being able to rip on a chunky downhill. This frame, is a direct result of decisions made by actual bike riders and not corporate suits. Enjoy!

REVIEWS

Bicycling - ”Like other great trail bikes, the Rollik seems to almost sprout longer-travel suspension when you need it most, while staying crisp and light on smoother stuff.” - Ron Koch

Pinkbike - ” The Rollik 557 has the right manufacturing pedigree, the right numbers and the right build.” - Richard Cunningham

Hardtail-like climbing

Comments about Spot Brand Spot Rollik 557 Frame:

So far I'm very happy with this bike. When the reviewers y say "climbs well", what they mean is it climbs well "for a bike in this class." I'm going to say this bike pedals and climbs well, period. Granted, 140mm (rear) travel isn't the biggest bike out there but this bike feels like an XC bike when climbing. It's really that good. On the flip side, it's not as easy to get the front wheel up as you would expect. Riding around the street, it feels only slightly easier to manual than my DH bike (2015 YT Tues) l. At speed, the front wheel comes up fine, and feels really stable. Jumping performance has been mixed, with a slight tendency to go nose-heavy (compared to the 5010 I was riding before) - but I haven't fully dialed in the suspension yet and I doubt that it's a problem with the bikes geo. I also set it up with a Fox 36 160 - which may be affecting the balance of the front end as it is supposedly designed to be 150. I did send an email to Spot asking about this and they said go for it, they do that too. Overall, I'd say the living link strikes a very nice balance between supple and supportive - but leans more towards the supportive side. This is tunable with by adjusting the shock volume and compression, of course. I haven't started playing around with volume spacers yet but just to get the basic sag right, I had to run about 50psi lower than Fox's "suggested" start point, which is usually about right for stock configurations.
Other notes... the seat tube is a little tall. I have a 31" inseam riding Canfield crampons (flat pedals) and with a 150mm dropper, the saddle is almost too high. There is also a little rattle from the internally routed housing but I think this is mainly due to the lack of rubber plugs at the entrance. Similarly, the seat post cable routing is challenging as the housing exits the down tube into the BB shell pointing down, so it's very difficult to get it to bend the corner to come up the seat tube.
