I have used SRAM chains for years because you can take them off and clean them and they seem to be more reliable than Shimano. I have never broken one, something I can't say for Shimano chains. The people who are having them skip need desperately to replace their worn-out cassettes (or they are using old IG cassettes or something, which probably need replaced anyway). I use mine with my old Deore LX cassette and XT deralieurs and it works fine. I use another one with an XT cassette and an XO deraileur. Again, no problems whatsoever. Experienced bikers have known for years that SRAM makes the best-performing, and most economical chains on the market. This chain continues that tradition. It lost a star for feeling a bit sluggish compared to the 971.

I put this chain on my bike and immediately had problems. I had the worst ride because of it........the chain kept skipping under load. I thought it needed to be lubed, but that didn't help either. It seems that the wider outer links of the new style SRAM chains get caught on the pulley wheels of a Shimano derailleur, causing the chain to skip cogs under load. I switched back to my old SRAM PC-69 chain and the problem instantly went away. I then tried it on my girlfriends bike with a Shimano LX rear derailleur, and had the exact same problem. Then I finally gave the chain to my friend with an X9 SRAM rear derailleur and he loves it. These newly redesigned SRAM chains will definitely give you problems with a Shimano rear derailleur.

        Comments about Sram PC-951 9SP Chain '10:

I usually use SRAM's 971 chain, but really there isn't a whole lot of difference between the 971 and the 951. I find that the 951 shifts smoothly and lasts as well as the 971. I only prefer the 971 b/c it weights a bit less. But if you're not concerned about that, then the 951 is a great choice. Love the powerlink.

I only bought a new one because I changed my wheel set and cassette. New cassette = new chain. The old one, same as my new one is in storage for emergency use.

I have used several of these chains over the past few years. They shift and drive well, though I get a somewhat short life out of them (about 2 thousand miles).

              Comments about Sram PC-951 9SP Chain '10:

I've run all the SRAM chains in all applications DH to XC/Trail and road. The Hollow Pin design isn't strong enough IMO and the 951, 971, and 991 all weigh the same, so why pay more? The 951 works great on all my bikes and of course tool-less removal using the master link makes it a clear choice over others. I did break one of these a while back, but that happens occasionally with anything.
