Comments about Stan's No Tubes Stan's Arch Ex/Sram X.9 29" Wheel:
The whole setup (rims, spokes, hubs) is a good weight, durable, stiff, and smooth. There is virtually no detectable flex in these wheels (especially when run with 15QR front and 12x142 rear). The rims are built with a nice wide channel so you can run some pretty beefy tires. Setup was easy enough: I run Hutchinson Toro 2.4 UST and they are super tough to get on, but I can't attribute that solely to the rim as I've had challenges with Hutchinsons on other wheels, too. The wheelset runs very smooth, is on the quieter side (compared to modern hubs), and has stayed perfectly true and tight after 100 miles/20 hrs of riding.
My one and only complaint is the SRAM X9 hubs have very limited points of engagement. I actually was aware of this before I bought the wheels based on the reviews of the hubs, but thought I'd give it a shot b/c I didn't think that would be something I notice. But I do. Where I notice it is in trying to start in steep, technical terrain from a dead stop. You really have to position your cranks quite a ways back from where you think the hub will engage in order to get it to pick up in the most powerful part of your pedal stroke. In other words: when starting from a dead stop you'll be spin about 1/3rd of a rotation before things engage. For a road bike or casual mtb this wouldn't be a problem, but if you're planning to be in technical terrain then beware of this issue.
Overall, though, I would buy these again simply because the price, weight, and durability all make it an extremely good by.
