This part (also known as a star-fangled nut) is used to set the preload adjustment on threadless headsets, in tandem with a top cap (not included). Proper installation requires the use of a star nut setter, a separately sold tool. Weight: 10 grams.
Please note that this item may not be suitable for use with some forks, including those with carbon fiber steerer tubes, which may require the use of an expanding bolt instead of a hammered-in star nut. Consult your fork manufacturer for more information.

This star nut is awesome! You press it into the fork and it holds the cap on tight. No worries about the steerer tube cap from falling off. It has one job, and it does it well. You can't beat the star nut.

Used this star nut to install a rigid 1 1/8" fork on my mountain bike. Pretty easy to use even without a special tool to insert it in the steerer. I just threaded the bolt in and tapped it in with a plastic mallet. It took a couple tries to get it straight, if you're not real good with your hands you might want the expanding nut instead.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
