I've been an avid cyclist for 45 years and this is the first helmet I could take out of the box and wear without any adjustments. I've worn it for the last two weeks and it is very comfortable. I also like the fact that the helmet has a lower profile.
On first view, the Suomy Timeless looks like a traditional, if not outdated, helmet shape. But a closer, more detailed inspection reveals it has modern tech and design that land it in the middle space of “timeless” style and elegance. (I didn’t even set out to make a pun but rather it is exactly what came to mind) I suspect that Suomy knew this and their marketing department went with it. Like any self-respecting Italian designer, integrating auto-racing style is mandatory. Its uncanny the many similarities worked into the overall design. With its multiple angle breaks, aerodynamic smooth “hood”, balance of hard and soft lines, its front intake NACA duct with lower symmetrical air-gobbling mouth scoops, shark gill side vents all the way back to the supercar rear skeletal matrix and spoiler, if you’re my age, you’d be forgiven for conjuring up mental images of those iconic cars of the late 80s-early 90’s
Its possible the Suomy Timeless is the Ferrari F40 reincarnated as a helmet. Mine is even Ferrari Red. The Italians love elegant speed and the Timeless helmet embodies it. Style inspiration aside, the Timeless is one of the lightest helmets I’ve worn. Built with ABS plastic shell and EPS foam inner, the SMC System (Suomy Minimum Contact System) maintains a gap between the head and the helmet to aide airflow and comfort.
At 190grams for the L/XL, it’s a featherweight and disappears on your head while the rear cranial cage and dial hug nice and secure. The thin straps flow with the face and fade away. I am not entirely sure what the “D” buckle on the strap end is for but it doesn’t matter because I never notice it and with the branded small rubber grommet, it prevents the newbie strap flap that so many helmets suffer from. This is a great helmet that brings together many elements that riders seek. My only beef would be that the diminutive dial can sometimes slip and the edges lack the wrap around ABS plastic that some of their other helmets include leaving these areas susceptible to damage. However, that is the price one pays for a great economical helmet under $100.
I purchased the Suomy Timeless a little over a month ago. I own one of their motorcycle helmets and really love it. I decided to go with the Timeless over the Gun Wind based on style. This helmet is as high quality as any I've ever owned (a Kask Vertigo was my last), if not higher. It is an extremely well ventilated helmet. The retention system is unobtrusive and provides a secure fit. Probably the biggest difference I notice with it is how light it is. It just disappears on your head, which ultimately is a great feature. You could buy two of these for the price of the average top end road helmet, and if you ask me it is every bit as good.
For a mid-ranged helmet this is OK. It's light and looks good. Some of the pads inside - which aren't very paddy - have come loose because the hook and loop adhesive isn't strong. Also, there's a foam pad on the retention strap at the back that has torn and come loose. There is a section on the shell that's not as smooth and shiny as the rest. It's about a few square inches. It looks like the plastic - or whatever material - is more porous there. Who knows? These are the character-building imperfections you get with going cheap. It vents well, fits well, and allows plenty of space for my glasses. Straps are comfy.
