The Surly Knard’s block tread pattern has been carefully researched, designed, and tested. The profile is shaped just slightly edgy to maximize traction on corners while keeping rolling resistance low on straightaways. The closely spaced blocks are designed to grab terrain, and works especially well when climbing. Please note that your frame must have CLEARANCE!

Comments about Surly Knard Tire:
This is my first fat tire. I bought it for a fat front Jeff Jones MTB. Out of the box, I was a little disappointed with the weight 1360g but was very happy with the quality of the tire. The sidewalls are quite substantial and durable looking for a 120 tip tire. Mounted on a Marge Lite rim, I'm happy with the diameter and volume of the tire. Riding it has been a joy. It's seen a lot of muddy single track and a little snow. Traction is fantastic. Shock absorption is also great. Finding the right tire pressure is SO important. I'm surprised by the rolling resistance of this tire compared to normal tires (29 or 26 for that matter). For some reason I thought it would be less than it is. Overall, I'm happy with my choice and will enjoy my Knard until it's worn out.

Comments about Surly Knard Tire:
My Pugsley came with Endomorph tires front & rear. I swapped the front for a Larry (see my review under the lightweight version) which was a huge improvement, and have now put the Knard on the rear. I'm using the bike on hardpack, rocky and loose singletrack - no snow or sand. Performance can be summed up in three words - grip, grip & grip. With this much grip, they should be called 'Kneasy' instead of Knard. Folding 120tpi version is about 500g lighter than my mate's 27tpi version of the Knard. Having cost about $250 for the set (Larry/Knard) it's been an expensive change-over, but the improvement in the handling and grip over the Endo tires has been worth every penny. Paying extra for the lightweight versions has saved close to 1 kg. All round, very happy - although I can't comment on how long they'll last just yet.
