Comments about Surly Long Haul Trucker Frame 26" '11:
I built what was supposed to be a long-distance touring bike out of one of these frames so I could ride the Katy Trail in Missouri, and the Greater Alleghenny/CBO Canal Path trail from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC. Both EPIC rides and I highly recommend them.
But this bike is just so comfortable and well made and just good-at-everything, that it has pretty much become my go-to bike for almost everything.
If I'm going to ride in a busy city, I like the spry frame geometry and the 26-inch mountain bike wheels because I feel no hesitation about curb hopping to get in and out of traffic. Also, the 26-inch wheels allow me to use a slightly larger, more aggressive tire that can make short work of hard-pack single-track trails in the mountains.
It's fast enough to allow me to keep up with the roadies, rugged enough to take moderate mountain bike trails, and in the winter, I can run 3-inch studded snow tires and tear around where others fear to tread.
I love this bike, because I can take it anywhere and it always fits.
