Using a narrow-wide chainring in conjunction with some type of €˜clutch' rear derailleur for any type of 1x drivetrain is pretty much the standard now. Narrow-wide rings use alternating tooth profiles engage the chain and control chain deflection in bumpy conditions. Surly has partnered with SRAM to bring you stainless steel option for a X-Sync chainring. Stainless Steel is durable and comes in handy when you're talking about the one ring that is bearing the brunt of all your miles. Perfect for heavy duty use or touring rigs that will see many-many tough miles.
