Comments about Surly Tuggnut Chain Tensioner:

This Surly Tugnut seems (so far) to keep my chain line perfect without having to adjust very often. My fixie build is still very new, and my chain will stretch and require adjustment at some point. Looks great on my build. I only wish it came in black...but that's so minor I wouldn't deduct for it.

Comments about Surly Tuggnut Chain Tensioner:

Nice chain tensioner. I installed in on my Surly Ogre commuter to set the tire back a cm or so in order to create better clearance/looks with a full rear fender.

You have to use an extra (supplied) washer to make the chain tensioner compatible with a QR skewer. This is the first chain tensioner I've ever had on a bike — and it does exactly what it's supposed to do — but I find it to be kind of a nuisance when putting the wheel on the bike and having to deal with this extra loose/dangling hardware around the skewer. That's more of a symptom of chain tensioners in general than it is a problem with this one though.

I used this to convert an old steel road bike with sliding dropouts to singlespeed. It worked flawlessly and will even open your post-ride beverages.

If I were to give it any criticism i'd say its not the best looking chain tensioner out there, but it makes up for it in utility.

Comments about Surly Tuggnut Chain Tensioner:

I bought the Tuggnut for my SS belt drive, primarily because it was the first tensioner I could find that could be used with a standard quick release skewer. Everything else seems to need a 3/8" bolt-on axle. So far, it has allowed me to get appropriate tension on the belt and looks reasonably good doing it. The quick release hasn't slipped at all, so Surly's recommendation to get just one Tuggnut has been accurate.

The only downsides are that it is about 3 times the price of other tensioners and the blue Loctite on the threads was a pain during the first installation.

Excellent product, but a little big

Comments about Surly Tuggnut Chain Tensioner:

I've had my eye on this thing for a long time. Since I was tired of adjusting my rear wheel every week I finally ordered it for a bike I use as a commuter that has a Felt track frame.

Awesome construction, the material is top notch, it would definitely do its job if it would have fit into my track dropout. It was too big by only a mm or two. With the right tools the edge could probably be ground down to make it fit, but it's beefy.

Easy install, does its job perfectly, and can open a bottle much easier than with popping the top of a spoke.

Comments about Surly Tuggnut Chain Tensioner:

The Tuggnut fits nicely onto my Gary Fiasher Triton with Halo Aerorage track wheels. I used to have my rear wheel misalign after a few rides and I have to check my rear wheel and brake before each ride. Now this problem did not happen again and it also makes wheel alignment faster.
