High-performance cantilever brakes for your cyclocross, touring, or even older mountain bike. The TRP Revox Canti Brake is an alloy option employing dual-spring tensioners, integrated barrel adjusters, titanium hardware and a handy hex fitting on the brake post for precise pad alignment. You're not missing much here. This is a set for both front and rear, and you get a set of pads for alloy rims, and another for your race day carbon rims. Plug and play!
Great power, modulation, and was literally the only Canti brake I could find that would fit my uber wide race wheels (27mm at brake track) without needing to shave the pads down to the nub. These work well because of the straddle cable design and many adjustment options.
I have 2 sets for one bike because of massive road vs CX wheel width differences that I have in my stable. I keep the straddle cable as-is, but swap the arms when I pop in the wide body tubular wheels for race day. Takes 10 minutes and they are ready to go. Great solution for my situation.
The initial setup is a bit tricky, but just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Minor adjustments are almost infinite and once dialed in you can keep them perfect with the in-place pad adustment. Stock alloy pads work fantastic (carbons are decent too).
These brakes are super strong and stiff, with plenty of power once set up properly. They are some of the strongest cantilevers I've ever ridden. Great brakes for cyclocross. However I had trouble with them in regards to the spring tension adjusters and brake shoes. The brake shoes are nice in that you can easily toe the pads, but caused squealing no mattter how I toed them. I replaced them with koostop salmons with a non-adjustable threadless post and the squealing stopped right away.
The spring tensioners' hex keys are easy to strip (DO NOT use a ball-headed hex wrench to adjust these!) and do not turn easily, so I unfortunately had to trash one of these due to it stripping and being unadjustable. Be gentle and the brake will thank you.
I did like how easy it was to move the vertical positioning of the pads, allowing you the flexibility to have the pads come in straight towards the rim or come down on it. These brakes are super adjustable but take a lot of time to set up because of it.
