Diamondback chooses to use Mitsubishi Rayon MR60 and HR40 carbon and the popular Toray T700 fibers. These fibers are incredibly difficult to work with, but because of their stiffness, the Podium can be made with very thin wall thicknesses. These fibers are bonded to together with Diamondback’s Optimum Resin Compound(ORC). Using too much resin makes a frame heavy and sluggish and using too little can result in separation and failure. OCR ensures the best ratio of resin to carbon combination and that creates a strong bonding process and an incredibly impact resistant carbon material. Diamond Back keeps quality control very high by manufacturing all their carbon fiber sheets in house unlike many competitors that buy pre-impregnated sheets.
The manacing matte black on black paint scheme is the canvas that Diamondback layered their component choice on. Shimano Ultegra 6700 components are quickly closing the gap left by the top of the line Shimano Dura-Ace group. The Shimano Ultegra group may only give up grams to the more expensibe Dura-Ace. Full Shimano Ultegra rounds out the brakes, cassette, and dual control shifters. Well thought out departures from Shimano Ultegra are the FSA SLK-Light PF 30 crankset that feature hollow monocoque carbon fiber arms and aluminum spindle. Easton provides their EA 70 wheelset along with Easton EC70 carbon fiber handlebar, and Easton aluminum stem and seatpost.
Dressed up in all black, this Diamonback Podium 6 strikes a menacing pose. Luckily, it's not just another pretty face. This is one Diamondback that will take you to the top of the podium!

Comments about Diamondback Podium 6 Road Bike '12:
I have the Podium Pro (same eact frame but with slightly altered componentry), the bike is very comfortable compared to other race oriented carbon bikes I've ridden while staying stuff enough to feel very responsive and fast. The BB30 bottom bracket and FSA carbon cranks make for a very stable pedal platform as well. My only worries are with longevity of the frame. Since it is ALL carbon, with no metal sleeve for the press fit bearings in the BB or metal sleeves for the bearing races to sit in, there could be some fit issues down the line...especially with the headset since its integrated and sitting on a carbon shelf. Make sure that your headset isnt creaking or loose, or you may be eating away at your bearing seats! Also, be very careful when routing cables both through the frame and along the bars as friction is a BIG enemy of the current generation of Shimano kit (DA, Ultagra and 105 all have the same issue since cables are run under the tape). Also using coated cables or good cable lube makes things work much nicer. If you are looking for a solid carbon bike for less $$$ than some of the other big brands, take a hard look at the DB road bikes...you might get some funny looks from people that remember the BMX heritage, but that'll go away when you pull away from them in the sprint!
