During my first practise round with these pedals I wanted to just go on and on. And the power you get while climbing! Absolutely awsome!
Had a pair of Shimano Ulegras before. They were good - but these Time-pedals are devine!
Time has created two completely new lines of pedals since the RXS's, but still sell these because anyone who rides them wants to keep riding them. They have a large and stable platform, easy no-look entry and predicable release. I have big feet, and these eliminated pressure points and hotsponts I got with Speedplays.
Only con is the price. The Carbon versions are double the cost of the Speed model, and only 10 or 15 grams lighter.
Bought these to replace an uncorrectable squeaking set of Look Carbon Pros. I have ridden Looks for 25 years and they are great pedals, but have a tendancy to make irritating noises. I put a set of Time ATACs on my mountain bike last year and love them so decided to give Time a try on my road bike.
These are fantastic! Not only are they quiet, but the cleat/pedal interface puts your foot about 8mm closer to the axle vs traditional Look cleats. To me this makes the connectedness to the pedal axle and bike feel much better. Having the seat that tiny bit lower also contributes to that sensation.
The pedal is very light, but seems durable as well. I am very happy with them.
Being a Time ATAC fan, I was looking for the same sort of feel from road pedals so it's no surprise that when I demo'd a bunch of pedals - Shimano, Look, etc. - that the Times won hands down on feel for me. While others may have float, rather than the pivot point being forward of the axle it is right above it like a Speedplay. The platform is very stable and the pedals are a good choice for long distance work and popular with triathletes. I have a suspect knee and a weak left foot and these allow me to go until I hit other limits. If you like the feel of this pedal but don't like the clip in, the Time I Clic automatic engagement pedal should be similar but perhaps lacking the proven durability of this model.
