Time ATAC XC 6 Pedals

The Time ATAC XC 6 pedals are a budget friendly pedal with the same technology you’d find in the more expensive carbon versions. The ATAC XC 6 features the ATAC system for easy donning and doffing. The pedals easily shed dirt and mud due to the self cleaning concept. The steel shaft makes for a firm pedal, while the composite body keeps the pedal light weight. The XC 6 pedals feature 5 degrees of angular freedom as well as 6mm of lateral movement. This amount of movement helps to keep knees comfortable, especially during rigorous rides.

  • ATAC system (Easy donning and doffing mastered)
  • Excellent stripping thanks to self- cleaning concept
  • Steel shaft
  • Composite body
  • Adjustment of angular sensations
  • Freedom angular (+/- 5 degrees) and lateral (6mm)

Very Disappointed with these pedals
I purchased these pedals as an upgrade to my Aluminum ATAC pedals, hoping to save some weight.

Upon first reaction, setting the release resistance with their "3 settings" was not clear at all and the instructions left a lot to be desired.

Within a month+ of using these the pins holding the springs in place began to back out of both pedals leaving them useless and dangerous.

There is clearly something wrong with this pedals. I have always been a large supporter and fan of Time Pedals but this product is horrible.

A resounding dissapointment
As with the other reviewer, I've had problems with the spring pins backing out of the pedal with two sets. The first set failed during a practice a week after I bought them and sent the spring flying into the woods. I took them back to the LBS where I bought them and Time sent out a replacement set. This set lasted all of two months before the pins backed out, this time during a race. I contacted Time and they say they've identified the problem, fixed it, and to send them back for another set. I'll do that, but I won't trust them for a race anymore.

Nothing but positive so far
I have a pair of these on my mountain bike and on my second (pit) cyclocross bike, along with a pair of the top end ones on my racing CX bike. The XC 6 on each of the two bikes--the two I ride most--have been completely trouble free and neither have ever given me a moment's trouble. I've been using Time pedals exclusively since 1994 for off road racing--always buying them myself--and have had only good luck with them.

PROS: Durable, Easy To Install

BEST USES: Racing, Mountain Biking, Road Biking

Good if you get a set that the pins stay
Really like these pedals. Almost as light as the carbon versions but cheaper, and with the same great Time interface.
They definitely have a problem with the pins that hold in the springs backing out though. My first pair it happened on the 2nd ride and im lucky to have caught it before the springs fell out and it was beyond a trail fix. Replacement set has not had a problem.

PROS: Attractive Design, Lightweight, Easy To Install

CONS: Pins Can Back Out

BEST USES: Upgrade, Mountain Biking

Quality has fallen dramatically!
I've been an ATAC fanboy for almost 20 years, and (until recently) been extremely happy with the performance and durability their ATAC models. This changed when I bought a pair of XC 6 pedals. These newer pedals use crude stamped-out retention springs and less durable plastic bodies compared to my trusty 'old' XE pedals. It's much harder to get the cleat to engage these new pedals, and they don't release as cleanly, either. It's downright frustrating to ride these on technical trails compared to my old pedals. I ended up selling them and going back to a battered pair of XEs I've ridden for years.
There are also widespread reports of pedal bodies cracking and retention springs bending on moderate trail impacts. In the 15+ years I've ridden ATAC pedals, I've only had one break on me--I blasted a exposed roof so hard, I thought I broke my foot. I've since epoxied the crack, and have put numerous trouble-free trail miles on 'em.
Note to Time: Go back the the old design, and stop putting profit margins above performance on your pedals.

Feel like Time pedals, but do not last
I ordered these after reading reviews and being aware there was an obvious build issue where the pins holding the springs in the pedal backed out. The reveiws I read stated there was a bad run and the problem was fixed. I have previous experience w Time pedals, and they have always been bombproof.
I got two rides of 10 miles on these pedals before the pins backed out. I ended up having to roughly hammer them back in on the trail just to ride home. Not happy, and I will be returning these.
