There are a few things that matter most in a downhill/freeride seatpost: strength, durability and adjustability. The new Holzfeller, made with a tough 3D forged 7050 alloy shaft and a wide range of adjustment options, has you covered in all these areas€”plus bold new graphics that set it apart from the crowd. It’s available in three diameters (27.2mm. 30.9mm, 31.6mm) and two lengths (250mm, 350mm), and features a new clamp with a wider range of tilt adjustments.
So whatever terrain you ride, and whatever the seat tube angle on your bike, you can dial in Holzfeller for the ideal performance and fit.
I have used this post full time for 2 years. Typically Holzfeller is Truvativ's higher-end downhill parts line, but in no way is this post downhill specific other than the fact that it is strong enough for any discipline and may be 40 grams heavier than high end XC parts. This post has everything going for it. It is designed very much like a Thomson post if you are familiar with that. The shaft and lower clamp area is one piece, in other words NOT two pieces bonded together. This is a good thing if you plan to use your post for awhile. Bonded seatpost heads can end up creaking, although I'm sure some manufacturers do bonding right, I always avoid them. The saddle angle adjusts just like a Thomson with two bolts and a rocker between them, this is easily the most proven, reliable design that gets consistently good reviews across manufacturers. It has a proper, wide support for the saddle rails with a gap in the middle allowing them a bit of rail flex. These traits help prevent damage to your saddle rails. The post achieves a low weight because the inside is machined in an oval shape along the length of the post, leaving more structural material at the front and back and less on the sides, so it is strong in the direction it needs to be. It actually goes one step beyond the Thomson posts in that regard because in addition to the oval machining, it is machined out even more at the last several cm of the post starting a little below the minimum insertion line. I prefer the outside finish of this post over Thomsons, which are kind of slippery and sometimes a bit undersized. This post fits in my Tallboy Carbon with what seems to be the perfect amount of tolerance. I have no complaints at all and can't think of a single way to improve it, and that is rare for me to say. Obviously it doesn't have any bells and whistles, but you know that from looking at it.
