The WTB Frequency TCS (Tubeless Compatible System) i23 is the best of both worlds. It’s a strong, lightweight, and is tubeless compatible. The UST compliant rim bead is shaped to help keep tires on rims better. WTB uses their “4D” drilling process which creates the optimal interface between spoke and rim. This exact angle reduces binding and the need for eyelets. To ensure strength and rigidity, WTB uses their I-Beam which was pioneered in 1994. I- Beam is a centrally located vertical support that counteracts spoke loads and provides torsional rigidity. In addition to the I-Beam, WTB embodies an additional band of aluminum to the sidewall that improves torsional, radial, and lateral strength.

Comments about WTB Frequency TCS I23 Rim:
I wrote my nickname as The Basher for this review. A few of my friends gave me that nickname when they realized that I am not the smoothest rider. It's with much regret that I agree with the moniker because it's speaks the complete truth. I'm 6'3", ~205 lbs, and ride an XL Specialized Pitch. The Colorado Front Range is my playground.
Due to a lack of reviews at the time (Feb 2012),I went out on a limb and had these rims laced to a king out back and a hope up front because I wanted something that was bombproof (tired cycling cliches in full effect).
I was not disappointed.
Not only are these rims stiffest things ever, but they are definitely bash proof. In my infinite wisdom, I felt a 4 day trip to Fruita would be the best way to break them in. 28 hours of riding, several small bails, who knows how many miles, and an epic over the bar somersault later, these things still roll straight and true. I can't comment on how easy it is to build wheels with 4D, but I can say that spoke tension variance was minimal after my long weekend. Truing was not needed one bit.
Weight-wise, they aren't the lightest. However, for 23mm ID, tubeless design, and their durability, it's a worthy compromise. Check out Mavic 823s to see what I'm talking about.
The TCS system is remarkable. I use a homebrew sealant and mounted a 2.3 Nevegal Stik-E up front and a Geax AKA out back, neither are UST (TNT in Geax case). Tires went on easily and sealed without a hitch, using a compressor. No hiccups or burps and very minimal air loss over time.
Overall, I'm pumped on being stoked for these rims. Durability is the high note here. If you want something that will last the ages, feel awesome on the trail, and maintain a competitive weight, I would check these out. Add in WTBs awesome reputation and dedication, and you have a win-win situation.
