Wolf Tooth's line of GC cogs has opened the doors to those who love to tinker with their bikes to create their own perfect setups. The GC 49 is the latest and biggest (literally) evolution in that family. This cog lets you extend your 11sp 11-42t Shimano cassette to whopping 11-49t range. Being optimized specifically for Shimano cassettes ensures that shifting remains fast and precise, and an included 18t cog keeps your gear jumps nicely spaced to keep your cadence feeling good.

Wolf Tooth considered matching the 50t gearing range of some other competitors, but found that by building a 49t cog they could increase the number of shift gates from 4 up to 7. This translates to faster shifting when moving into this dinner plate of a gear. This is incredibly crucial on such big gears as it ensures the least amount of lost power from free pedal stroke before a gear is engaged. This kit comes paired with the WolfCage for even more refined shifts and derailleur tooth capacity, the Wolf Tooth GC 49t Cog will help to expand your horizons.

Tech Specs

  • Kit includes a 49t GC and 18t cog and a WolfCage
  • These are specifically designed for use with Shimano cassettes. The clocking, or rotational orientation, between SRAM and Shimano cassettes is much different so optimal shifting cannot be achieved unless the design is optimized for each separately.
  • Design and manufactured in Minneapolis, MN USA
  • Material 7075-T6 (GC) and 6061-T6 (cage)
  • Weight - 110g = GC49, 22g = 18t cog, 22g = WolfCage

Compatibity

  • Order the correct cage to match your derailleur
    • GS is medium cage (measures 88 mm between pulley centers)
    • SGS is long cage (measures 107 mm between pulley centers)
    • Cages are also different between XT and XTR!
  • Compatible only with Shimano 11-speed 11-42 cassettes
  • Compatible only with all 11-speed chains
    • Note that you likely need a longer chain than you currently have your bike
    • Chain length is critical with the 49T and must be set according to the instructions on the GC tech page
    • Chain wear should be less than .5 when installing a new GC or chainring
  • Compatible only with all 11-speed chains
  • Caution: always check full suspension travel with the chain on the GC 49. Bleed air from rear shock and fully compress the rear suspension to check. Derailleur cage must not bottom out in forward rotation.
