X-Fusion Hilo Dropper Seatpost

X-Fusion Hilo Dropper Seatpost

A "dropper" seatpost has quickly become the must-have accessory for todays 5-6" travel trailbikes. Why? These bikes are being ridden more and more aggressively, and riders want to ride them all over the mountain. A height-adjustable seatpost allows you to ride with the post at full height for pedaling performance, then drop it down and out of the way for more aggressive, steep terrain.

X-Fusions entry, the HILO, uses a hydraulic mechanism to allow 100mm of travel adjustment, activated by a convenient bar-mounted remote.

Great investment for fun on the trail
I purchased this seatpost to give myself more confidence since I am not a great descender. Plus, I ride a hard tail. I was immediately impressed as soon as I pulled the product out of its packaging. It is the lowest model in the X-Fusion seastpost line, but it doesn't feel like a lesser product. The fit and finish are both great.

An important note is that the product pic that Jenson has on their site is the older model. I was overjoyed when I realized that the product I received was the 2014 model with the newer head (similar to their more expensive offerings).

Installation was easy although their instruction manual was lacking. Fortunately the X-Fusion website has installation videos. The cockpit lever and seatpost are well designed and fit with no issues. There's no slippage so far (I am about 140lb) although I did purchase some fiber grip just in case.

Operation is simple. Just move the lever in any direction you choose. The post moves up and down smoothly and by the sound/feel, you can easily tell when the post has reached its maximum height.

The two big concerns with dropper posts are weight and reliability. The Hilo feels heavier than my fixed post, but only slightly. I think the functionality is worth the extra weight to be honest. Unfortunately, I am not able to talk about reliability since the product is still new, but it feels solid so if it continues to perform as it does now for a long time, then I will be happy.

PROS: Attractive Design, Easy To Install

Failed After a Month of Use
The X-Fusion Hilo was easy to install and worked great for the 1st month. On my last ride I noticed a little oil leaking. By the end of the ride, the seals had failed and oil was leaking everywhere. Maybe I got a lemon, but I'm switching to a different brand.

Your MTB life will change forever
Even on an entry level XC bike this seat post will make your confidence skyrocket as you progress through more challenging, technical downhills where keeping your COG behind the wheel is necessary then returning to the right height to tear up the uphill. Infinite positions gives you the flexibility to adapt to any terrain and riding scenario. Looks great, even the remote. Couldn't recommend this more.

Brings my Riding to the Next Level
Finally a reasonably priced 27.2 mm dropper post. Fairly easy installation for an external dropper post, if you've run shifter or brake cables you'll be able to install this easily. The included remote works well, though the cable noticeable stretched after the first ride and required adjustment it's been trouble free since. The post works as advertised, pushing all the way down by hand is a bit difficult, but using body weight is no problem. Post pops up to maximum height easily, with a slight slow down at the top that I personally like. No durability concerns yet, but I've only been riding a few weeks and wouldn't expect problems at this point. 100 mm drop is a little lower than I'd prefer, but it's hard to find a longer drop in a 27.2 mm post as fits my older frame.

If you have an older bike that you've transformed into a pseudo-trail hardtail, this will take your bike to another level for a great price.

Rock solid dropper
All in all a very nice quality post. Installation manual is very vague. The install video on x-fusion website was extremely helpful although the model on the video had different hardware than what I received. Had to figure out where some parts were going.

PROS: Video On Site Helpful, Attractive Design, Durable, Great Operation

CONS: Install Manual Is Weak

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Fat Biking

I dig this post the most
I think that the benefits of dropper posts are well established by now, so I won't dwell on that. I've had it out for several rides and it's functioned fine so far. The BAT multi-directional handlebar switch is a nice touch. I really like the infinite adjustment that the post allows me to have - hit the lever and drop or raise it anywhere within its travel.

I dinged it a star because of the nearly non-existent installation instructions and no link provided to access to them. Fortunately a Google/youtube search netted an installation video that worked well enough. The cable bolt and washer are weakly glued to the packing foam in the product box rather than being contained in one of the small plastic bags, so you might not want to go tearing into the packaging like some agitated gorilla unless you want to lose these tiny items.

I have not had it long enough to comment on reliability; the one weak point of hydraulic dropper posts thus far (other than price).

Just wait I needed
Since I start doing AM again after just riding downhill, I needed the option to enjoin the DH part better. Without hitting my "personal parts".

The market for 27.5mm is low, or super low, just to don't say obsolete, but this dropper has it. And long enough for my size and bike.
It's easy to install, to clean and to operate. It has a super little play in the seat, like 1°. Normal. But doesn't loose any else.

It's easy to operate for climbing or down when drop a DH line. Now I enjoy the riding like I like.

Great product
A dropper is a must have now days and the X fusion is a great way to go. Finding an affordable dropper and one that was 27.2 was difficult but X Fusion made it happen. I'm 6'5 and was afraid the 100 mm travel wouldn't be enough but it's perfect. I had my local bike shop install and there were no issues. The bat remote that activates it is convenient since its activated by pressing in any direction.

Awesome Dropper!
Love my dropper post, especially this one! It works great on my bike and set up was reletively easy! The remote lever for this post is designed to be mounted anywhere on the bars, left or right and words when pressed in any direction. This makes it work so well when bouncing through the trails and operation is smooth and quick.

My seat post says it's 34.9 in the specs, will a 27.2 dropper post work? Would I have to change anything else?
A shopper on May 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Are you sure that's your seatpost diameter or the seatpost clamp diameter? Your seatpost itself will usually note its diameter somewhere near the bottom of the post. If your seatpost is in actuality a 34.9mm we do sell them. You may find them here:
