Comments about XLC Inverno 29" Disc Wheelset:

I bought these just for the cheap price to compare to pricy wheels. My stock Bonty's that came on my Bike lasted one 1200 mile season no problems. Granted the Inverno's are heavy, won't run tubeless and are cheap, they ran a 1500 mile season last year. Bottom line, for the money I invested in a second set and have been happy this far along. Great for training, throw on your secondaries and it is a major improvement for speed gaining. Only advice is grease them when you get them.

Comments about XLC Inverno 29" Disc Wheelset:

I bought these for a budget first 29er SS project. I was very skeptical that these wheels would be decent considering the low price, and the lack of info on XLC rims. So far, I have been pleasantly surprised. They came properly trued and tensioned and have worked out great so far for rooty, rocky singletrack. The SRAM hubs are also surprisingly smooth. The bottom line is that they are getting the job done for me. If they were lighter weight with an option for thru-axles instead of QR skewers, that is the only thing that would make them better at this price point. For [$], I would recommend them to anyone (not weight weenies) who is building a budget (or first) 29er. They are good, entry-level steamroller wheels.

Comments about XLC Inverno 29" Disc Wheelset:

I bought a used 29er with V-brakes to see if I like riding on the bigger wheels before I jump into something expensive. Anyway, the previous owner must have left a brake dragging for a very long time because one side of the rim was warn through the ware indicator (the brake pad on that side was toast as well), I just wanted to replace it with something cheap that would work with my v-brakes. As far as I can tell, the rim is exactly the same as the Alex DH-19 it replaced with the exception of the fact that it is only single eyeleted whereas the DH-19 was double.

The description on another website said the intended use was as an "aggressive trail or free ride" wheel. With the single eyelets I'm skeptical about whether it's tough enough for hard trail riding, but I guess I'll find out. The wheel was true out of the box, which was a pleasant surprise, and it has worked fine for the couple of rides I've used it for so far. The only real problem worthy of complaint is that is that when I spun the wheel on the stand, it slowed down so quickly that I thought the brakes were dragging. I may repack the bearings as I've found with other cheap wheels I can make them spin like a much nicer wheel by doing that.

Comments about XLC Inverno 29" Disc Wheelset:

Bought these for a commuter. For [$], you can't get better value! Sure, the hubs are not silky smooth, and sure they're machine built, and sure they have pinned rims, but they work, and seem tough enough to do the job until I can afford a better set, or until I wear the rims out. An added bonus is that I won't care as much if someone decides to steal my wheels.
