The all-new Yeti SB-5C is the singular pioneer in a new wave of Super Bikes. In a progressive effort to develop the best trail bike imaginable, Yeti chose to completely revamp their rear pivot system. Their new Switch Infinity technology combines the best of both worlds: creating a bike for trail riders who go big and downhill riders looking for a more ‘enduro’ riding style. The platform brings with it a new generation of technology that has truly never been seen on mountain bikes before.
Aside from its sleek lines and beautiful performance-bred details, the suspension design of the SB-5C is its crowning feature. Creating a radically redesigned, completely new suspension platform was no easy task. For 4 years, Yeti worked side-by-side with the engineers at Fox Racing to develop the new Switch Infinity suspension system. Switch Infinity is a design before-unseen on mountain bikes. Functionally, the motion is similar to the older Switch design, but by moving away from a rotating eccentric pivot, Yeti could design a link that is an "infinite" length long, eliminating the feeling of the suspension bottoming out. Essentially, the rear suspension changes its wheel direction by translating vertical motion into horizontal motion on a pivot that suspends on two vertical, Kashima-coated stancions, that Yeti calls a "rail". As the suspension compresses, the rear wheel moves upwards and outwards. The benefits are multi-fold. Switch Infinity infuses the proven big-hit capabilities of their 303 Rail Technology with the pedaling efficiency of the previous Switch system to produce a smoother, lighter and stiffer rear end, whilst still possessing the climbing prowess and small bump compliance of the original Switch system. Switch Infinity now instead uses an all new, low-maintenance, Kashima-coated mechanism. No need to worry about air pressure or oil levels, the Switch Infinity system is virtually maintenance-free. Topping it all off, Switch Infinity is 100 grams lighter in weight than the previous Switch design.
The new SB-5C features legendary Yeti trail bike geometry (long top tube, low bottom bracket, and slack head angle) and is constructed of high modulus carbon fiber. Still just as strong and stiff as other carbon Yeti bikes, a refined lay-up results in a 5.1 lb frame (that’s including the rear shock!). This new lightweight frame design paired with the climbing characteristics of the new Switch Infinity technology will result a 5” travel trail bike that knows no boundaries, confidently shredding downhill and flying uphill like there’s no tomorrow. This bike is for the rider who wants to climb fast, descend faster, and stay railed in every corner.
The X01 build introduces SRAM’s 11 speed mountain drivetrain to the masses with a lower price point without sacrificing performance. X01 is slightly less lightweight than XX1 (the difference is under 100g) but is still much lighter than any 2x10 setup out there, while still offering a wide gear-range thanks to the 10-42T X-Dome cassette. The new X01 cranks feature carbon arms and a removable spider (much like the X0 cranks) along with SRAM’s new X-Sync tooth profile which acts as a built in chain guide system. The rear derailleur’s X-Horizon design eliminates any vertical movement which reduces shift forces and prevents “ghost shifting”. The X01 drivetrain brings the latest and greatest SRAM technologies to your new complete bike, offering a simple, clean, and more importantly, reliable drivetrain to your SB-5C.
