As you move in closer for a better look you’ll begin to notice this isn’t just another single pivot but an innovative new suspension design Yeti dubs Switch Technology. The oversized main pivot actually contains a second pivot (lower pivot of the swing arm) that is offset within the main. This eccentric mechanism switches direction from as the bike moves through its travel creating an optimized wheel path without unexpected spikes or wallows. The Yeti SB 66 won the “Mountain Bike” editor’s choice award.

At the beginning of the travel the eccentric link is rotating in a rearward direction, guiding the lower pivot of the swing arm rearward. This counter-clockwise motion coupled with the initial rearward wheel path creates an excellent pedaling platform, making the SB-66 Carbon pedal and climb crisply without sacrificing small bump sensitivity. The mid stroke has a flat linear shape, creating a large “sweet spot”, allowing the suspension to react better to bigger hits.  Once the travel reaches about 100mm, the eccentric link starts to rotate in the forward direction.  This means the rate at which the chain stay grows drops off quickly, allowing the suspension to work independently of chain forces. Because the suspension isn’t being impeded by chain growth in the last third of the travel, the smooth feel in the middle continues all the way to full compression without a harsh bottom out feeling.

Every detail on the SB-66 Carbon screams, “Ride me!” From the Fox K+ CTD Adjust rear shock to the carbon fiber frame construction.  Even small details like an externally splined BB shell, tapered headtube and Enduro Max bearings make all the difference. 

This version of the Carbon Yeti SB-66 features Yeti’s Pro (XTR) build. Dressed in Fox suspension pieces and a Shimano XTR 10 speed dyna- sys drivetrain, the Carbon SB-66 is a race- ready all mountain/ enduro bike. The SB-66 features a Fox Float 34 150mm CTD ADJ fork. 34mm stanchions are strong and rigid enough to protect from any flex. The Float also features Fox’s innovative CTD technology. CTD stands for Climb, Trail, and Descend. As opposed to Fox’s old system of adjusting low speed compression, the CTD system is fast and easy, which allows you to make on the trail adjustments. Put the fork in Climb mode for low steep climbs, Trail for rolling terrain with a mix of elevation, or descend for downhill descents. The Float also features the Trail Adjust Mode which provides three micro adjustments for the Trail Mode. Yeti paired the Fox Float suspension fork with the Fox Float rear shock. The Float rear shock also features CTD Adjust with Kashima coating. Kashima coating is a golden colored coating that produces less stiction than traditional stanchion coatings. This produces a smooth and even suspension feeling. Though the suspension pieces are impressive in themselves, there is still more to. This race ready stallion features a Shimano XTR 10 speed drivetrain. Shimano XTR is the crème de la crème. XTR is light weight, reliable, and provide immaculate shifting and braking power. Shimano XTR Trail brakes feature finned brake pads for fast cooling, for improved braking power. DT Swiss 240/XM450TL wheels are lightweight, strong, and feature precise engagement for the best performance possible.
