For 2014, the Yeti SB-66 features a custom butted aluminum front triangle combined with a high-modulus carbon fiber rear triangle, making it a whopping 300 grams lighter than the full alloy comp model. In addition to the SB-66’s new facelift, the visually stunning lines and sculpted tubeset of the SB-66 will certainly capture your attention like love-at-first-sight. Of course, the SB-66 wouldn't be the SB-66 without its mind, body and soul: Switch Technology. Switch Technology is a modified dual-link system that utilizes an eccentric mechanism that switches direction as the bike moves through travel to control pedaling forces and wheel path, resulting in both efficient climbing and descending. With Switch Technology gracing your machine, the suspension is quite active on downhills, yet completely efficient for trekking up steep switchbacks.
The alloy/carbon frame is lightweight at only 6.8 pounds (claimed weight); while the full alloy chassis with an inset tapered head tube and a compact assembly, make the frame stiff and responsive. Pair SB-66's progressive geometry with Switch Technology; add in oversized pivot pins, and tada! you get one aggressive bike that yearns to be ridden hard. The harder you ride, the better the SB-66 will perform.
Yeti Cycles knows that a frame forged by gods would be nothing without an exceptionally dependable component set, which of course is why they outfitted the SB-66 with a SRAM drivetrain. SRAM X01 makes up the crankset, rear derailleur, and shifters, to bring you the simplicity, yet ingenuity of single ring 11-speed living. X01 brings SRAM’s 11 speed mountain drivetrain to the masses with a lower price point without sacrificing performance. X01 is slightly heavier than XX1 (the difference is under 100g) but is still much lighter than any 2x10 setup out there while still offering a wide gear range thanks to the 10-42T X-Dome cassette. The new X01 cranks feature carbon arms and a removable spider (much like the X0 cranks) along with SRAM’s new X-Sync tooth profile which acts as a built in chain guide system. The rear derailleur’s X-Horizon design eliminates any vertical movement which reduces shift forces and prevents “ghost shifting”. The X01 drivetrain brings the latest and greatest SRAM technologies to your new complete bike offering a simple, clean, and more importantly, reliable drivetrain to your Yeti SB-66.
The Fox 34 Kashima coated fork with a 15mm axle and 160mm of travel paired with the Fox CTD Adjust K+ (8.5”x2.5”) rear shock, is certain to gobble up rocks, roots, ruts and bumps. For the cockpit, Yeti has employed the leaders of cockpit compents, with an Easton Havoc Carbon handlebar, Thomson X4 stem and Thomson Elite seatpost.
The Switch Technology will have you hounding for grades to climb, and what goes up must come down, and what comes down must eventually come to a halt. Due to gravity's indecisiveness, the Avid Elixir 9 Trail brakes and brake levers offer superior braking power that will have you stopping on a dime. The SB-66 X01 rolls on Stan's ZTR Crest wheels, laced with Maxxis tires; a recipe for competition crushing. Get out of the house and into the saddle of the SB-66, and wage battle on that daunting ascent that’s been haunting you, head to the bike park for an adrenaline fix, or ride your way to the top step of the podium.
