Yeti SB-75 Comp Bike 2014

Yeti’s all new for 2014 SB75 is their SB series 27.5” (650b), 5-inch travel, trail machine. The unique Switch Suspension Technology makes for a smooth ride with extremely efficient pedaling without sacrificing small bump sensitivity. Blindly turn into a rock garden or rutted downhill with the confidence that your suspension will eat it up. The oversized structure on the front end and oversized chain and seat stays on the rear keeps the SB75 stiff which directly improves the handling and overall feel of the bike. The compact, forged unibody construction of the upper pivot and eccentric assembly create a seal to keep any debris out, keeping you from having to service the bearings as often. The SB75 features Yeti’s classic, ride-driven geometry (slacker head tube angles, lower bottom bracket, longer top tube) pared with oversized tubing on the front and rear end making this in-betweener handle like no other.

The Yeti SB75 utilizes Switch suspension technology which was first seen on their 26” and 29” SB models. Yeti has since adapted, reengineered and tested it over and over until it was perfectly suited for these ‘mid-size’ wheels. The basics still hold true - super efficient in all gear combinations without sacrificing traction and comfort. Switch suspension is an ingenious design that uses an oversized main pivot that actually contains a second pivot (lower pivot of the swing arm) which is offset within the main. Once the eccentric mechanism reaches the inflection point (about 100mm into the travel), the eccentric link starts to rotate in the forward (clockwise) direction. This means the rate at which the chain stays grows [dCSL] drops off quickly, allowing the suspension to work independently of chain forces and pedal feedback. Because the suspension isn’t being impeded by chain growth in the last third of the travel, the smooth feel in the middle of the stroke continues all the way to the full compression without unexpected spikes or wallows.

The Yeti SB75 Comp build is essentially the Enduro build without the Fox Kashima coating on the fork and rear shock, ultimately making for a friendlier price tag. The SB75 Comp comes equipped with a SRAM 2x10 drivetrain to ensure you’ll make it to the top of your climb and Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes to bring you to a nice and steady halt once you’ve bombed the back side. The Fox EVO fork is built with an open bath cartridge damper (same structural design as FIT damper forks) which aerates less than previous open bath designs, resulting in smoother, more consistent performance. The front and rear Fox EVO shocks feature Fox’s CTD pedal efficiency system – short for Climb, Trail, Descend – allowing you to adjust the dampening to better suite your current terrain. Throw the lever into Climb when going up and slide it over to Descend to let it all loose on the way down; then you have Trail mode for the other 90% of your ride. Yeti topped off their SB75 Comp build with DT Swiss wheels and Maxxis rubber, making this a serious deal worth considering if in the market for a 650b all-mountain machine.

Independent Review

"I'm familiar with both the SB66 and the SB95 and like both very much, but I feel the 75 is the best of the three. Quicker and more playful than the 95, and easier to ride and less descent-oriented than the 66, it strikes a middle ground that I personally love." - Matt Phillips at

The Super Bike in the Middle
This is my go to bike for the trails and Enduro style riding in the Pacific Northwest. I have a Yeti ASX for shuttles and freeride and had a 29er for trail but never got used to the geometry of the 29er. I love the 650b wheel size for trails and lively feel that still rolls over all the roots. This is the perfect bike for wet, rooty, rocky, nasty NW trails with lots of pedalling!

PROS: Durable, Versatile, Great Spec, 650b

BEST USES: Mountain Biking, Trail Enduro

Great Yeti
My first full suspension bike and a huge improvement from my old '95 Homegrown. This is also my first time at this price point and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. They Yeti SB75 rolls over obstacles, carves corners, soaks drops and climbs as easily as my hardtail. There were several options to include the Fezzari and Specialized, however I went with the Yeti due to their reputation and postive feedback from several Yeti owners. Just couldn't ignore the pride Yeti owners had in their bikes. Now I understand why… I read several negative reviews about the SB75s weight while researching it, but once I weighed my current hardtail to compare, the Yeti is only 2 lbs heavier.

This bike rocks!!!!
This is the lowest priced Yeti but not an entry level bike. Rolls over rocks and roots climbs like a beast.Takes a while to get use to 650b size and 2x10 setup, The 2x10 is awesome once you figure out what gears to use. Had it for a month and i keep getting fast. best bike for under $3000. Rider (me) needs to improve to get full potential of bike. Bike is heavier than my 26" but rider could lose some weight to make up difference.

Solid Bike!
This is my first full suspension bike, switching from a 29'er hardtail. The switch suspension handles unpredictable dowhhills like a champ and I've found the wheel size allows snappier handling around the rocks, roots and switchbacks. The bike has such a substantial feel when I hit a downhill stretch that I'm no longer selecting the most cautious line, but rather the most fun.

Only issue to get used to is the weight. 32.5 lbs with xt trail pedals vs. my 27 lb trail bike. The confidence gain and sheer durability is well worth the weight disadvantage in my opinion.

Good bang for your buck!
Mostly rode on intermediate trails. Turns baby heads to ping pong balls. Set it and forget it suspension. Brakes are a bit under powered and weight is an issue. Overall, very happy!
