The Extended Range Cog brings lower gears to your 1x10 drivetrain. Currently, 10-speed cassettes only go up to 36T, which is plenty for 2x or 3x setups. However, with the increasing popularity of the 1x drivetrain the need for lower gears is what’s keeping most riders from converting over to the dark side. The Extended Range Cog replaces another cog on your cassette to provide a lower 40/42T cog to help on those steep climbs. Recommended for use with a medium to long cage derailleur, the Extended Range Cog also includes an replacement B limit screw which is much longer than the standard B limit screw, to allow your derailleur to handle a large 40/42T cog.
The 40T option is only meant to be used with Shimano 34T cassettes. This is due to the fact that SRAM does not make a 34T and the shifting will be compromised with a 36T as the timing will not be correct. A medium or longer cage derailleur is recommended, however you still may need to use the included extended B limit screw.

Comments about e.thirteen e.13 Extended Range Cog:
i install on a bH zenith 29er. the hubs are shimano anf the cassette is a slx 12-36 i think. i install the 42 tooth but wasn't able to install the smaller cog on the cassette when remove the 13 tooth. so i remove the 12 gear but the 13 tooth still slip it's not tight enough on the freewheel. Do i need to remove a space (where) or my freewheel isn't good quality enough ??? i try to solve my problem. on my other bike with a xt cassette and a sun ringle hub i install a one up 42t with no problem.
