iXS's Dagger D'claw Knee pads offer ideal protection for aggressive mountain biking. Constructed with all around breathable AeroMesh, these knee pads are well ventilated. iXS also designed them with moisture wicking antimicrobial material, so the D'claws stay fresh ride after ride. Their signature SqueezeBox joint system gives your knees a full range of motion without being abrasive. High quality double injected protection shells are comprised of polypropylene for optimal shock absorption. Tear resistant nylon layers make sure they stay together season after season. Silicone lining prevents the pads for shifting around on you. The D'claw pads are nothing short of impressive, offering comfort and protection to keep you pedaling.
LoopLock fasteners provide maximum security and adjustability
These are wicked nice knee pads. They aren't too bulky or too thin. They don't move around on you. The are pretty comfortable. You can use them anywhere you might want to use kneed pads and they take it like a champ. I've used 'em in the backyard and while putting in hardwood flooring. I have even used them mountain biking and they have surpassed my expectations. I have fallen a few times and come up with nasty scratches on the pads, but not on my knees!
Great higher level of protection for more downhill specific purposes. For pedaling, there are more comfortable options out there. The front bottom part that covers the top of the shin rubbed some skin raw first couple rides. They are comfortable while on the bike, not so much while standing or walking because of the pre-curved structure. (In case someone tries them on in the store and finds them uncomfortable, try them on bike in parking lot of store to see how they fare). Overall recommended, if pedaling is a priority, maybe consider something with D30.
These were on sale at a time I needed replacements. These are a little overkill for simple trail riding but perfect for all-mountain/enduro in the dry. Not bad but not perfect. I specifically picked these for the 100% wrap around the knee. Open backs tend to slip dow the leg no matter how cinched they are. I got XL for my size 21" knee and they are snug(like I like it). No crashes yet.
Good protection, well made, but bottom uncomfortable
I liked these knee pads, right until I started to pedal my mountain bike. the bottom edge, in front, is hard, and it rubbed against my shin abrasively. So, though they were well made, and would offer great protection, for me they aren't comfortable to use on a bike. However, my riding buddy also purchased these same knee pads and they don't rub against his shin, so the shape of your leg may be the difference as to whether they are comfortable or not.
