iXS Trail RS Helmet

Seeking to craft an all-mountain/enduro workhorse, iXS teamed up with mountain bike legend Richey Schley to design a signature helmet that takes the demands of all-mountain riding to task. The iXS Trail RS features a lightweight, comfortable fit paired with top-notch, sturdy construction for high-end performance that is absolutely dialed. Not just a high-functioning piece of innovation, the Trail RS looks great too. Clean, modern lines give the Trail RS a look all it's own, but it's still firmly grounded in classic enduro style.

With the Trail RS you don't have to sacrifice protection for weight savings, the dual in-mold shell construction provides excellent coverage and absorption and shaves grams in the process. The included MX style visor is adjustable via bolts in the side of the helmet and a crash release screw at the front of the visor ensures the visor will break away in the event of a crash instead of push the head backwards. The Trail RS utilizes IXS's Ergo-Fit Ultra fit technology for a helmet fit that is flexible and easily adjustable. A dual-compound dial adjuster in the rear of the helmet provides simple adjustment of fit and a Y-clip adjustable strap systems allows for further fine tuning, keeping your mind on the trail and not the nagging discomfort of a ill-fitting helmet. Twenty-two generous vents provide a refreshing amount of ventilation so heat can escape and cool air can find its way in.

Particularly Narrow....
Hi I purchased this helmet as it had fantastic reviews and I wanted a helmet with more coverage. I wanted to love this helmet. I got the S/M size and had to return as it was particularly narrow and pinched my temples but fit every where else. I wear a Small or Medium sized helmet in every other helmet I wear with zero fit issues....Giro, 661, Bell, Shoei, NEXX, Smith, HJC, etc. So I was surprised it did not work for me Figured it'd be good to note for others interested in purchasing :)

Good Helmet Bad for glasses
I'm a East Coast rider. Since I've gotten this helmet I feel a lot more protected. My previous helmet slid on my head a lot even when fully racheted down. This one doesn't move at all and the internal pads are easy to remove and clean if need be. The visor is good and adjustable as well.

I've only got one complaint about this helmet and it makes it difficult to wear glasses comfortably. The way the helmet is built, it pushes the earpeice against the side of your head and makes it uncomfortable. I typically ride with out glasses now.

Ordered for the color and ample ventilation. I was not disappointed with either, but the size guide was misleading. I measured my head as 57cm and the medium should go up to 58cm. I had no adjustment on the helmet and it was so uncomfortable and tight I had to send it back. Hard to buy a helmet based on online measurements due to the variation in head shape and sizes. For comparison, I tried on a Bell Super 2 in a local shop and their medium fit terribly too (squeezed around the temple area.) I then tried on a Giro Feature and it fit perfectly in size medium. Hopefully this helps those of you with similar shaped heads. Too bad IXS didn't work out, it was a sharp looking lid.

Awesome helmet
I usually fall between M and L helmet sizes. My head measured 56.5cm. I purchased size S/M as per sizing chart which indicates 54-58cm. It fits me snugly but just right. If you are closer to the 58 end of the scale I recommend next size up. Awesome style, (not too 'huge') great adjustibility, and in-between the full-back enduro style and standard helmet. A no brainer for your brain
This helmet really hits all the marks. Clean, attractive looks. Very comfortable. You forget you are wearing it. Fits well and doesn't feel like it could come loose. Never gets hot. I like how sweat gets channeled away from your face. I really don't know how it could be improved. One of my favorite pieces of kit.

iXS Trail RS Helmet
I bought this after doing a ton of research reading reviews and asking around. Some of the things I like about this one is how much ventilation it has compared to my previous helmet, the comfortable padding, adjustable visor, the adjustment system, and the adjustable visor. I was close to the upper measurements for the smaller size and it fits perfect. I would not have enough room to wear a beanie or anything under other than a thin band to keep my ears warm in real cold conditions.

I do like the more snug fit to make sure it fits my head right and does not shift upon impact. The retention device seems to work really well and it is comfortable and easy to use with one hand. The padded bit on the strap is actually being used to take up the slack from tightening the chin strap. This was something I thought I would toss when looking at pictures.

The adjustable visor does stay in your peripherals a little bit, but I am used to that a bit from wearing dh helmets. This may bother some, but I am cool with it. It is well worth the on part cost vs the competition.

Great quality lid.
It's ideal for oval shaped head. My head is more round thus the helmet feels tight on the side of my head just above my ears. These two left and right tight contact points was easily remedied by rubbing them with a blunt object, I used the handle end of my screw driver making the foam in the tight areas 1-2mm slightly depressed. Now it fits my round head perfectly. Also has a tendency to drop down on the front and the visor slightly blocks upper peripheral vision. Everything else is great.

Superb
Great helmet. Only issue I had was figuring out the sizing. My head measures 57.5cm and I got the M/L first. Too big. Had to crank the adjuster all the way plus the shell looked too big as well. Returned it and got the S/M and it fits great. Just enough room for a JUNK head wrap for sweat and the helmet fits like a glove.

PROS: Good Ventilation, Comfortable Fit, Highly Adjustable, Lightweight

CONS: Sizing Difficult

IXS website shows SM & ML with size ranges. Jenson shows the ExtraLarge, what range is that?

BEST ANSWER: I am not aware of the helmet coming in an XL size. I ended up buying a s/m and am super happy with it. Felt a little snug at first though.One of the best helmets I've owned. Certainly more low profile than a TLD A1 or a bontrager rally.
