If going big is your steeze, make sure you're protected when you've gone a little "too big" and meet the ground for a reality check. As 7IDP's top-of-the-line knee protector, the Tactic Knee Guard doesn't come up short on features to ensure both your style and safety should you come up short on your next jump. The Curv® cap provides high strength while keeping weight low and flexibility intact, while its X-Profile design offers a compact profile fit. By using double layer polygon perforated custom foam, air is able to move efficiently throughout the protector, ensuring long-lasting comfort and wearability.
Further optimizing comfort and retention is 7IDP's unique Boa system that provides an even tension throughout the pad with a twist of a dial. Weighing in at a mere 228 grams, it's crazy to think that the Tactic Knee Guard is designed beyond CE EN 1621 safety standards, ensuring maximum protection without expensing comfort, mobility, and style.
The Tactic Knee Guard is a minimalistic approach to high-end, pedal friendly knee protection.

I haven't had a chance to put these to a test so this is really a review based on how they got and there material quality.
The quality of the materials send really good. Good stitching, heavy duty where they should be, they just look and feel like a really well made pair of pads. The BOA system works a treat tightening evenly and gives a better fit than any Velcro closure I've used. The lower tightening band is at the top of the calf, which really hold the package in place. Wish every pad put a tightened there. I wore them around the house for a couple hours and the floating knee really kept the hard shell where it should be and made walking comfortable. They didn't seem overly warm either.
They seem to fit a bit on the snug side. I'm right in the middle of the medium and they were a bit hard to get into, but weren't too tight once on. If you right at the top end of a size you might think about sizing up as they do have a lot of adjustment.
I picked these up for downhill and they certainly seem like they will do the job. Hopefully I won't test them out, but I'll try and update with any riding issues if they arise
This is an interesting pad as its the only one I've seen with a Boa system. Boa systems are great on boots and casts where pressure needs to be uniform. I think 7IDP and I have discovered that it doesn't work well with these knee pads, hence they are discontinued and no one else is using a Boa system. However, it can be made to work with some time and thread.
Anyone who has used knee pads with a strap over the knee, knows the over-knee strap always slides down from two things. The force of the tight strap on a conical surface, (think of tightening a strap around the outside of a funnel, the tighter the strap, the more it wants to move down to the narrower side of the funnel.) and the act of pedaling physically pulls the pad down. On this pad, the upper rubber "strap" is set too far down close to the back of the knee so when the over-knee part slides down your leg from pedaling, it gets pinched in the back of your knee. Because the Boa tightens evenly, if the under knee strap is tight enough to keep the pad from falling off, the top strap is pulled into the back of your knee and is uncomfortable.
All of this can be mitigated by cutting the top strap in half or (and less permanently) you can cut the threads out of the mesh and re-sew it at the top of the pad to keep it out of the way of your knee. This makes it harder to put the pads on but decreases the chances of the rubber part getting in the way. Its worth noting that the upper mesh backing that the upper strap was attached to can still be a bit uncomfortable.
In the end, I gave this pad two stars because the actual knee padding and materials are good and I can modify this pad to be salvageable. However, I would not expect the average rider to be thrilled with having to modify it before its really usable. so I would not recommend this for someone unless they wont be pedaling at all. ( might be a good pad for snowboarding or something similar.)
