There is nothing that feels better than a new component on your bike. Whether you are replacing a broken part or upgrading from your current componentry, everyone is excited to test out their new setup. Maybe you just got some wider handlebars for more stability, super grippy tires for more traction, or a more comfortable saddle for your behind, changing one or more components on your bike can equate to an overall better and safer ride experience. We all ride bikes because they are fun. We might as well make that as fun as humanly possible. Here at JensonUSA, we have a huge selection of bike components to take your bike to the next level. Enjoy the ride like never before!
Bicycles consist of many components. These include things like the wheels, drivetrain, brakes, stem, handlebar, grips, tires, saddle, and fork. There are different levels of quality when it comes to components with some components being better than others. Some components are made out of aluminum while nicer components are made out of carbon fiber.
While all the components on your bike are important, you don't always need the best of the best on your bike. The level of component you get should be determined by what type of riding you do. If you're into racing, you'll want lighter components. If you're into riding aggressively out on the trails, then you might want to get something more durable so you can ride with confidence. More casual cyclists can easily get away with components that are on the lower end of the spectrum.
The chain interacts with several different components on your bike. The chain is wrapped around the chainring and crankset up front and the cassette on the rear. If you have multiple gears on your cassette, then your chain will move from one gear to the other via the rear derailleur. Some bikes will even have a front derailleur.
When you see "12-speed" or "9-speed" on a component, it refers to how many cogs are on the cassette. Drivetrains can range from 8-speed all the way up to 12-speed and sometimes even 13-speed. 12-speed drivetrains are currently the most popular when it comes to components.
Many things go into a good component, including things like materials and technology. Higher-end components like derailleurs, wheels, or saddles will be made out of carbon fiber or titanium. Some derailleurs will shift electronically instead of mechanically for a crisper and quicker shift. Brakes will come with 2 pistons or 4 pistons and will have higher braking power and better modulation for more controlled descents.
