The Kestrel Lace incorporates all of the success seen in the original Five Ten BOA Kestrel while delivering pedal efficiency and comfort in a classic lace closure. They feature stiff, nylon shanks that are designed for ultimate power transfer to the pedals and EVA midsoles for excellent shock absorption. The outsole is comprised of proprietary dual-compound Stealth rubber. Where the pedal meets the shoe, the Kestrel has C4 Stealth compound that increases power transfer and durability so you can rip-it-up, without actually ripping them up.
Stitched Stealth® C4 rubber outsole
Compatible with all SPD pedals
Perforated toe vamp & mesh tongue for extra breathability
I've been on flats since day one, but always tried to talk myself into going clipless. Finally took the plunge with these shoes. Most of the others didnt appeal to me, these seemed pretty stylish and along the line of my go to flat pedal shoe.
Paired them with some CB Mallet E's, tight engagement and feels solid. Love it!
Went a 1/2 size up after reading some reviews, seems like they wouldve been a bit tight if I wouldnt have. All in all A+!
Haven't rode in these yet but I can tell I'll love them. Some info:
Although these shoes seem "skate-ish" in style they are plenty stiff enough for everyday MTB'ing yet comfy to wear and HAB in.
I've been using Lake shoes with the Vibram sole for years b/c I need to be able scramble up granite rocky terrain in the Phoenix area. Those are great but HEAVY. These soles seem lacking at first glance since there is no heavy tread but the compound sticks like glue on my concrete driveway...no reason to think they won't work as well on rocks scrambles. They are lighter than my Lakes but not "race-light", that's for sure.
For xc racing I'd choose a much lighter shoe. But light weight shoes don't provide the grip and protection of "all mountain shoes" for lack of a better term. Heck I had some Speshy BG comps years ago and HAB'ing up rocks on those was like ice skating....live and learn.
Awersome looks, awesome stiff platform. Seem to run a 1/2 size small. I used 43 (mens 10) in Lakes and wear size 10 mens in Nike athletic shoes but had to go with 9.5 in these 5/10's.
Ordered 8.5 but would call actual size 8.25. Regular size 8 shoes are too tight and uncomfortable for my feet. I normally wear 8.5 shoes. Bought these in 8.5 and the fit is tight but not restricting. If you are on the larger spectrum of a size, would recommend going the next half size up.
They are very stiff allowing you to put power down and my cleats do not make contact with the ground at all now. I was able to use them with my Crank Bros Candy and a set of flats on another bike for a few minutes. Impressed with how they felt on flats. It did feel like it took a little more effort to release the Crank Bros than with my old shoe.
Took 1 star off because I noticed a small gouge in the stealth rubber from the flat pedals. Does not inspire too much confidence in the longevity of product.
You can never go wrong with Five Ten shoes. They simply outlast and out perform all of their competitors. The quality, comfort and style all make for a winning combination. I highly recommend buying Five Ten shoes for whatever outdoor activities you participate in.
I have rode regular flat Nikes for awhile now and I finally was ready to step up to clips. When I started my research theses shoes seemed to keep popping up so I thought I would give them a try. When they arrived they fit perfectly and are actually comfortable to walk in. I am very pleased with my purchase and would recommend them to anyone.
The shoe is very stiff and feels very solid. The grip is awesome, I've never had 510s before, but now I know what everyone is talking about when describing 510s. The fit is a little snug, so if you have wide feet, might want to check other options.
Slight pinch around the top ankle on the inside. They are starting to break in already though after the second ride. First impressions are they should be a good comfortable shoe after a few more rides. I wear a 10 1/2 in all my other shoes (except dress shoes) and a 10 1/2 fit great in this shoe.
