The Kestrel Lace incorporates all of the success seen in the original Five Ten BOA Kestrel while delivering pedal efficiency and comfort in a classic lace closure. They feature stiff, nylon shanks that are designed for ultimate power transfer to the pedals and EVA midsoles for excellent shock absorption. The outsole is comprised of proprietary dual-compound Stealth rubber. Where the pedal meets the shoe, the Kestrel has C4 Stealth compound that increases power transfer and durability so you can rip-it-up, without actually ripping them up.

I've been on flats since day one, but always tried to talk myself into going clipless. Finally took the plunge with these shoes. Most of the others didnt appeal to me, these seemed pretty stylish and along the line of my go to flat pedal shoe.
Paired them with some CB Mallet E's, tight engagement and feels solid. Love it!
Went a 1/2 size up after reading some reviews, seems like they wouldve been a bit tight if I wouldnt have. All in all A+!
You can never go wrong with Five Ten shoes. They simply outlast and out perform all of their competitors. The quality, comfort and style all make for a winning combination. I highly recommend buying Five Ten shoes for whatever outdoor activities you participate in.
Haven't rode in these yet but I can tell I'll love them. Some info:
Although these shoes seem "skate-ish" in style they are plenty stiff enough for everyday MTB'ing yet comfy to wear and HAB in.
I've been using Lake shoes with the Vibram sole for years b/c I need to be able scramble up granite rocky terrain in the Phoenix area. Those are great but HEAVY. These soles seem lacking at first glance since there is no heavy tread but the compound sticks like glue on my concrete driveway...no reason to think they won't work as well on rocks scrambles. They are lighter than my Lakes but not "race-light", that's for sure.
For xc racing I'd choose a much lighter shoe. But light weight shoes don't provide the grip and protection of "all mountain shoes" for lack of a better term. Heck I had some Speshy BG comps years ago and HAB'ing up rocks on those was like ice skating....live and learn.
Awersome looks, awesome stiff platform. Seem to run a 1/2 size small. I used 43 (mens 10) in Lakes and wear size 10 mens in Nike athletic shoes but had to go with 9.5 in these 5/10's.
The shoe is very stiff and feels very solid. The grip is awesome, I've never had 510s before, but now I know what everyone is talking about when describing 510s. The fit is a little snug, so if you have wide feet, might want to check other options.
