The Five Ten Kestrel Pro Boa MTN Shoes incorporates all of the success seen in the original Five Ten BOA Kestrel while delivering impressive pedaling efficiency and fit thanks to the Boa closure system. They feature stiff, nylon shanks that are designed for ultimate power transfer to the pedals and EVA midsoles for excellent shock absorption. The outsole is comprised of proprietary dual-compound Stealth rubber. Where the pedal meets the shoe, the Kestrel has C4 Stealth compound that increases power transfer and durability so you can rip-it-up, without actually ripping them up.
Stitched Stealth® C4 rubber outsole

Perforated toe vamp & mesh tongue for extra breathability
I have ~15 rides in these. They're a lot more comfortable than my previous shoes which were more XC-race oriented. The BOA sinches well and evenly, and it's even easier to loosen. The tongue doesn't bite. My favorite part is how stiff the shoe is - basically like an XC shoe but more comfortable.
These are the 3rd pair of clipless shoes I've owned and they're by far the best. Their stiffness makes pedaling feel efficient and their "shoeness" makes walking around fantastic too. My feet do not hurt at all after a few hours of riding --that's new for me. The boa thing may seem like a gimmick but I love it too. Definately worth the price.
Previous to these my only MTB shoes were top of the line XC/CX race shoes. For the most part I got along with these fine, I've been riding road and XC for 10 years and my carbon slippers are comfortable when riding.
Off the bikes is another matter and as I've progressed MTB'ing I find myself on my feet more, walking back to hit something correctly. Or in my area there is a staircase to carry a bike up on one of the trails I like. Carbon slippers are not good walking shoes.
Enter these Five Tens, I actually bought them at a LBS spur of the moment because I was just getting an idea of what I wanted for new shoes. These were stiffer than the ME5's I looked at, and have a more fashionable look too.
I'm really impressed with how stiff these are when pedalling. I'm coming from top of the line carbon slippers and these don't feel lacking for stiffness pedaling. You can feel that a bit when walking but they have enough flex to walk pretty well as well. The sole is grippy, I finally understand why trail pedals have wider platforms, and when I rode a buddies bike with flats they gripped pretty decently as well (although if that's what you are looking for, I'd just get not clipless shoes).
My biggest concern with these was breathability, and it isn't the best, but better than I expected especially when you cary speed the tongue breaths better than you might expect.
I would definitely recommend these ! My old Giros bit the dust and I wanted to try these based on previous Five Ten shoes I’ve bought. These are a great trail shoe but stiff enough for XC for sure. Very comfortable.
