GT is a company that is rooted in their BMX and mountain bike heritage. GT bikes started in Southern California back in 1972 by a man named Gary Turner. According to him, BMX bikes of that era weren't durable enough, so with his knowledge and skills acquired from welding drag racing cars, he set out to create the first GT frame for his kid to use on the SoCal BMX race circuit. GT bicycles were born to help riders push the limits of what is possible while riding on two wheels.
When mountain bikes started to emerge on the scene, GT applied the same quality bike designing they had with BMX to their mountain bikes. GT mountain bikes are made using a Triple Triangle design. This design helps to reduce unwanted lateral frame flex and also improves acceleration. Not only does this design improve the performance of their bikes, but it also improves the durability of the frame. When they proved that they had a winning formula with their hardtail mountain bikes, they started to make full-suspension mountain bikes starting in 1995. Shortly after they started developing their full-suspension mountain bikes, they created a new suspension system: the i-Drive. This suspension design proved to be ultra-reliable and efficient and received rave reviews.
Many of GT's bikes use their Triple Triangle design, including their road bikes, city bikes, and commuter bikes. To this day, they are still well planted in their BMX and mountain bike heritage with most of their bikes being from those two categories. No matter what type of riding you do, GT has a bike for you.
