Racing down PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) at 55mph on your bike requires serious stopping power. The CX-5 is a disc brake for your road bike. The CX-5 is to be used with short pull (STI, Drop, or Cantilever) levers.
These work really well. Only the outside pad travels, just like with the Avid BB7s. The body is stiff and they are easy to install and set up. I haven't had any squeeling, either, which I will admit I was worried about.
The inside pad is stationary. You need to use a hex wrench to adjust the position. Out on the road, this might be a slight pain, but it's been fine for me.
The amount of caliper travel per amount of cable pulled is the highest with these brakes between Shimano, Avid and Hayes. That's why I went with them. I use them with SRAM levers and they work great. The power is good. Pretty much like a pair of road calipers.
They work well in all weather, and I like that I am not grinding my rim down when riding in bad conditions. Easy set up, and they are very reliable.
These are my first set of disc brakes. I'm a roadie/CX person. So I have no comparison with hyrdos, which I'm sure are better.
The only thing I don't like is both pads don't move. Centering with multiple wheelsets is kind of a pain. Maybe it's like that for any disc brake setup.
