An aluminum cyclocross bike talented with gravel grinder versatiliy
Kona is no stranger to the strange world of cyclocross racing. In fact, their bikes have spent so much time between the race tape and launching fly overs that the weirdness that is cyclocross racing quickly had Kona making unconventional, purpose-driven machines for unconventional, purpose-driven riders. Here we sit in 2016 and there's no better evidence than the Private Jake. Short chainstays, a relatively low bottom bracket and a slack head angle, coupled with front and rear thru-axles has the Private Jake delivering a superior ride quality with improved power transfer and handling speed.
Aside from it's giddyup and race frame design, the Private Jake is also insanely versatile when compared to most other cyclocross bikes. Not only can it be set up as a single speed rigster, but it also sees an adjustable 12x142 rear dropout, a new 15mm carbon fork, and clearance for up to 40mm tires that provides the race-worthy capabilities and training-worthy adaptability that a privateer racer requires. The frame rids itself of a front derailleur option in favor of the shorter chainstays to improve its snappiness and behavior.
