Leatts home of research and development is located in Cape Town, South Africa. It is here that a team of engineers and designers, as well as Dr. Leatt himself, dream-up and test new products along with looking at way to improve products in their line even further.
For those rides when you don't necessarily need to carry your entire workbench of parts and tools along for the ride or bring a four course picnic brunch to satisfy the calorie intake for the day. The Leatt DBX 2.0 Mountian Lite Hydration Pack has 1 liter of cargo space and the ability to carry up to 2 liters of water. Additional features include helmet and neck brace carrying system, digital camera mount, back protection, and a quick release "trail" hydration bite valve.
Slim design hydration, cargo & back protection
Ultra Lightweight but durable construction
Compact sizing (Smallest and lightest pack with CE protection available)
Back protector 3DF CE EN1621-2 Level 1
Unique Helmet + Neck Brace carrier system, with stabilizing hooks
I was looking for a pack that was slim as well as durable. I wanted it to have a bit of protection but not get in the way while smashing through the woods. This pack met all those expectations and more, the 2 liter bladder space with 1 liter of storage is more than enough. I really like how Leatt designed the fit system, you can literally set the straps up exactly how you like with or without a neckbrace, full face or not. I have yet to use the integrated brace/helmet strap but I am sure it will work just fine.
PROS: Durable, Versatile, Lightweight, Easy to Use
It is great to not have a waist strap. This pack has a unique high level strap system to eliminate the need for a waist strap. The pack stays tight on your upper back. Haven't used the protection yet but it is a plus. It is hard to get the straps to stay tight but working on it. The bladder is a big disappointment, it is way too complicated and hard to get working correctly. The valve where the hose plugs into the bladder does not seat easily. I replaced the balled with a simple Platypus one. Storage space is enough for energy bar, mini tool and an iPhone plus.
Excellent quality and fit! Favorite hydration pack
This pack fits great after a little bit of tinkering with the shoulder adjustments. The pack stays nice and secure over jumps as long as it is properly cinched from the bottom adjustments otherwise it will float around some I learned very quickly. Never has the pack hit my helmet on descents or any other time. If you are looking for a compact hydration pack with back protection in mind look no further. This pack fits all of my essentials for a normal after work ride, I stash a tube, tire levers, pump, multi-tool, spare mech cable and my huge phone and even has room for a tube patch kit and I even put some tire plugs in there. its a tight fit but that's what they were going for I imagine and it is not that heavy at all. For an epic day where I cant refill with water I would possibly use my larger camelback or purchase the larger version of this pack that has more storage. The only downfall and I don't feel its enough to mark the rating for is the bite valve, its a little tough to bite on and get water out of but im noticing it is getting a little easier after more use I imagine its breaking in some but on the plus side is the bite valve has a nice protector cap over it to keep the dirt off of it.
If you want a slim, lightweight pack with back protection this is a good pack. If you get thirsty while you ride, this is a horrible pack. Bite valve doesn't work well, very restrictive on the water flow. The hydration pack closure is garbage. I have used it 3 times now and the closure cracked and broke the last outing on the hydration bag. Extremely hard to close and open. Fold over the top once, clip pulls right off, fold the closer twice and good luck getting the clip on.
I was drooling over this in a magazine, so my wife got me the bag as a surprise for Christmas. I haven't had the heart yet to tell her it's garbage. The zippers broke the first time I opened them on a ride. The hydration system is one of those over-engineered ones that's annoying to fill and tough to suck water out of. And I know it's supposed to be small/minimalist, but this thing is barely able to hold my phone/tube/pump/wallet/keys/energy bar at the same time. I'm going back to my much cheaper, much simpler, slightly larger Fox bag.
