Lizard Skins DSP is a truly unique bar tape, leading the way for cyclists tired of boring, uncomfortable tape options. A grippy, soft poly-rubber with a gentle textured pattern encases a shock-absorbing foam core for maximum grip and comfort. Lizard Skins DSP tape is tacky in wet or dry conditions and provides excellent vibration damping. The 2.5mm thickness is a perfect medium, giving a great balance between heft, longevity and comfort. Revolutionize your comfort with Lizard Skins DSP Bar Tape.
DSP (DuraSoft Polymer) long lasting and comfortable, the DSP material is great in all conditions and easy to clean
Longer lasting than traditional cork bar tape means more time riding and less time replacing your tape
Optimized feel and control stays tacking and clean feeling in all conditions
I used this tape in a verity of conditions. (rain, snow, sun) It is now my go to bar tape. I've even had friends switch. I sweat more than average and usually have problems with my bars getting slick on long rides. But have not had any issues since I switched. Have around 2K miles on this tape and no issues yet.
I've read other reviews saying that the tape is slick when it gets wet and now I understand why others have pointed this out. If you were riding outside in the rain, this could be a real issue. On a trainer, you really need to put a towel over the bars to keep it from getting to slick. With all of that said, I really like this stuff. It's very comfortable and has basically eliminated the numbness in my hands on longer rides.
I love this tape. If you like a skinny feeling bar this is not for you. I have this tape on my road bike and on our tandem. The tape on the tandem really sold me. Comfy on long rides and just plain feels good.
I needed wider bars, so I changed my bars on my Felt Z2 bike to Easton EC90 Carbon Aero Road Bar 2014, 46 cm. After reading many reviews on bar tape, I went with Lizard Skin 2.5, black in color. It is not the cheapest in price, but I am glad I purchased it. My hands use to regularly get numb on any ride over 15 miles. I have ridden several rides between 40-60 miles with this tape. Numbness is not 100% eliminated, but reduced greatly--probably about 75% reduced in frequency.
Back story: I originally purchased a set of Easton EC90 Carbon Aero Road Bar 2014, 44cm bars. They ended up still to small. For these bars, I purchased the Lizard 3.2, white in color. It was too thick for me and the white got dirty way too fast. I only did about 3 rides with this tape before returning the bars for the 46cm ones. I was able to ride without gloves with the 3.2 tape, but I just did not like the feel.
PROS: Comfortable, Easy To Install, Reduces Numbness
I like the look, texture, and durability of DSP over cork. It's just all-around excellent. It gets stickier as your hands sweat. It's easy to clean up if it gets dirty. And it's very cushy. Truly good stuff.
PROS: Comfortable, Does Not Slip, Durable, Easy To Install
I like the cushioning effect of the 2.5 tape on my stiff all carbon setup and I like the sticky feel of the tape. After trying it on my gravel bike, I've put it on my other bikes as well. It is a little tricky to install unless you follow the directions but there are several great videos on the internet. It also is easy to unwrap and reposition if you don't get it just right the first time.
For cyclocross, this tape is some of the best out there when it comes to grip. I have tried the 3.2 thick DSP, which may be great for gravel, but i felt made the bars a little bulky for a technical CX course. When installing, it is a little tricky to get flush and wrapped well since this tape doesn't stretch! For that fact i gave it 4 stars. For normal every day road riding i personally prefer a nice cork tape.
The best bar tape, very grippy and extremely comfortable, but bright colors show dirt readily. Not the easiest to install as it should not be stretched - stretching the tape causes it to be less durable.
A real pain to install, and the comfort improvement doesn't justify the high cost
Because they tell you not to stretch it, and because I didn't want to ruin my expensive bar tape, I didn't stretch it.
This inability to stretch it causes 2 problems: 1. the tape buckles anytime you don't follow the same spacing and application pattern as when you started applying it. So, around the levers you are going to have ugly buckled areas that's you'll have to try to cover with the hoods, or with another layer of tape, which wastes the tape and makes the bars look bulky and uneven. 2. the finished product doesn't feel snug or tight. The tape is made to be cushy, but when I squeeze that handlebar I don't think I am just compressing the tape, I am also compressing the small voids between the cables and the bar where the tape doesn't naturally conform to make it feel tight, and which you apparently can't pull harder to make it be tight.
It's hard to explain....but it sort of feels like the tape is on the bar as opposed to being wrapped around the bar....
Hey JT, I have used several variations of this tape, and you are able to stretch it to get it to wrap nicely. I believe Lizards Skins warning is conservative to keep people from pulling too hard. You don't want to stretch it as hard as standard tape as it can tear, and you lose some of the DSP affect. But, I definitely stretch mine tight enough to get it to lay flat and conform nicely to the shape of my bars. I hope that helps. Keep Pedaling!

Not happy ,for the...
Not happy ,for the price it should have lasted longer.I will not buy lizzard skins again.Maybe I will try leather next time.
The color of the tape is not a true red, its more of a Cranberry red. It does not match anything on my bike and will have to be removed. I have used the yellow tape before and it is a nice bright yellow.
