Riding a bike is fun. When Marin designed the Hawk Hill, they wanted to provide riders with a fun full suspension bike that didn’t break the bank. Built around Marin’s Multi-Trac suspension system, the Hawk Hill is Marin’s most playful and fun full suspension bike to date. The bike’s light aluminum frame features short chain-stays leading to a snappy feel that is equally at home on rolling hills as it is on steep downhill single track. Everyone can fall in love with mountain biking over and over again with the awesome Marin Hawk Hill.
The Hawk Hill 3 is an incredible bike coming in at a great price. A 130mm Marzocchi Z2 fork and Fox DPS Performance rear shock provide a supple and smooth ride, the Shimano SLX 1x12 drivetrain provides all the gears you need to make it up the steepest climbs, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes provide incredible stopping power when descending those steep chutes. The bike is rounded out with Marin Tubeless Ready wheels for less flats and incredible traction.
If you are looking for a bike that can handle everything the trail has to offer, the Marin Hawk Hill needs to be your next ride. From fast flowy single track to all day adventures and everything in between, the Hawk Hill was designed to handle it all. Push your riding further and attack the trail with more confidence than ever before.

This bike handles like a dream, I have never felt more confident on the trails and I’ve ridden many trails over the past 25 years. If you are looking for a do it all go anywhere rig at a reasonable price, THIS is the bike for you. I’m totally in love with it, and do not regret buying it.
The only thing I changed was the grips, the ones that Marin includes are just fine, I just prefer the extra cushy Odi Rogues.
I'm coming from a 2009 Jamis XCT 2.0 so I can't really compare this bike to other modern bikes, but I will say it is a huge improvement over my old bike. It handles so much better, is a lot more stable, and is just a lot more fun to ride fast. I love how it looks and have even gotten a few compliments on it.
There are a few issues I have with the stock spec, though. Marin seems to like to cheap out on the drivetrain and not include full SLX. Instead you get a SunRace cassette, which works alright, but it's not great. It's especially frustrating since to get an SLX cassette on you have to change out the hub as well, which I did. The stock tires are also boat anchors, both heavy and slow rolling. I changed those out as soon as I could decide on suitable replacements. Other than those things I am happy with the spec. The brakes, suspension, and dropper all feel like quality components that work well. I will say the rear bottoms out a little easier than I'd like, though, and the ride maybe isn't quite as plush or forgiving as I was hoping it'd be, but it would probably help to have wider tires and do a little more tinkering with setting up the suspension. On less chunky trails this bike feels great, though.
The bike stock is fairly heavy at around 33.3 pounds with pedals. I changed out the tires (Tioga G3TT 2.35 front and Schwalbe Rock Razor 2.35 rear - I do think I'd like to go wider when I replace the tires at some point) and went tubeless and that saved a little over a pound and a half.
Overall a pretty sweet bike for the price, but it would be nice to see Marin spec the bike with full SLX and better tires. Maybe they'll make those changes on next year's model.
