Bought one of these in 28 mm to replace a worn out rear IRC Formula 26 mm. Funny that at equal pressure and rims (Ultegra UST) width of both these tires is approximately 27 mm. Still running a Formula in the front so good match. Got it the night before planned big ride (300 km, 4300 m climbing) and was unable to seat it with a floor pump. Pretty common appearance with an out of the box tire. Stretching/shaping the tire with a tube first usually fixes this problem. So I put the tube in and left it there for the planned ride as I was leaving before the sunrise the next morning. Sure enough, I got a flat from a piece of wire in the middle of the ride. Can't even remember when I had a flat last time before. If I was running the tire tubeless, I am very sure I would not have even notice a loss of pressure with this kind of puncture. Anyway, I put another tube in and finished the ride. Seated the tire the next day with Stans latex using what was left of the CO2 in the cartridge I used to fix the flat the day before. Seated with a few reassuring snaps and holding pressure since. That means I am not sure how easy/hard would it be to seat it with a pump. Reasonable weight for a tubeless. Can't comment on longevity. Giving 4 stars because of that. Ride is supple. Maybe I am just imaging it but tubeless generally seems to have less rolling resistance. Still too expensive! We need more choice and competition in the road tubeless market!
Update: As much as I like how this tire rolls, its just not durable enough for daily riding or training. I am getting at least one tire cut a week. The fluid seals the tire at about 60 to 75 psi and allows me to get home but any pressure above that will blow out the sealant I have been patching the inside of the tire to seal the cuts. This is a great race day tire. Its light and fast but for everything else, its just too thin to be ridden for daily use.
Smooth rolling light durable no flat in 2500 miles
Long tread life . They sound awesome on the road ha they really do
Did a full rebuilt on my KLEIN Q pro 2003 just because I felt sorry for it ,After I bought my new bike .thought Id try tubeless wheels just to see what they were like on a road bike ! It backfired they are so awesome I am back on this old amazing bike as much as my new one cause they roll so good They just have an amazing feel on the road So stable and I put at least 2000 on my first set no blowouts I'm runnin 25 mm now and just love the feel Easy install on ultegra rims U won't regret
This is a really nice tire. The tire mounted up very easily. I did not need any tools to mount the tire ( hands only with a tubeless ready rim). Tire inflated with ease on the first try. Tire is mounted on Campagnolo 2-Way Fit rims with 40 to 50ml of Stan's race sealant. I decided to use the race sealant due to the higher air pressure in road tires. I should also mention that Maxxis includes a nice pair of tires tools with the tire which is a nice plus just in case you need to use a tool. After a few rides, I can say that the ride is very smooth and stable. I ride about 150 miles per week. Most of my flats are from thorns which the Stans should seal without an issue. Another winner from Maxxis.
