Just because you've got a little rider in the household, that does not mean they need to roll on inferior tires. The Maxxis Snyper 24" DC Tire has all the better Maxxis technology tied into a smaller tire now. Two compounds are used in the tread, for lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip. Center knobs are ramped for better turnover. The casing is 60tpi, with the company's SilkShield technology baked in to offer bead-to-bead puncture protection. This is a big riding tire in a small package.
It is hard to find a good tire for a kids bike. I went to 3 different shops for a 24" MTB tire for a kids' bike and they all wanted to sell me some skinny Specialized tire with non-aggressive treads. I would never want those tires on my own bike. These really fit the bill. I would like to rate them 4.5 stars because they are a 2.0 and I'd prefer a 2.1 or 2.2 and they was just a bit narrower than I was hoping for but then again my kid is like 70 pounds and I think the smaller tires will accelerate faster for him and still give lots of traction over what he used to have.
One of my kids started running trails really fast with his stock Kenda small block 8 tires and he was washing out in loose dirt a bit. In the 20" size I got him the Maxxis MaxxDaddy which was so much better. In the 24" size I tried these, but was not super impressed for loose and rocky trails. I think these are only sightly more aggressive than the Kendas more for neighborhood and dirt riding with probably better steering in a little loose dirt. I then bought the Minion DHF 24" which are awesome for higher speeds and rougher terrain, expensive, but how fun is it to scoop up a kid after his front tire washes out halfway through a ride. These are great, go for it kid, fingers crossed :) I'll probably put this one on the back for a while since he is so into laying long skids down.
