Measuring Tools for Bikes

MEASURING TOOLS FOR BIKES

The bike industry is filled with measurements. Every component on a bike must be designed and measured to fit with another component on the bike. Everything is now a question of compatibility. In a world filled with measurements, it’s good to have some tools to measure with. Here at JensonUSA, we have a wide selection of measuring tools for bikes.

The cycling industry is based around the metric system. The only major exception are mountain bike wheel sizes. They are categorized in inches such as 26” and 29”. For the most part, everything else is measured with the metric system. Since cycling exists all around the world, the metric system is a better standard to use for bicycle frames, components, and accessories.

Multiple bike measuring tools are designed to measure certain parts of the bike or frame. A derailleur hanger measurement tool is designed to straighten a bent hanger. Most hangers will snap if they are bent too far, but if a hanger is only slightly bent, it can be bent back. A hanger needs to be perfectly straight to have properly shifting gears. A frame alignment tool is designed to check a frame’s alignment after a crash or collision. When a frame is not aligned correctly, it can be dangerous to ride. Some other measurement tools include a wheel alignment tool to see if a wheel is dished and a chain wear tool to see how much life a chain has left until it should be replaced. Other more universal tools can also be used for bikes. A tape measure is always handy to have, and a pair of digital calipers are very helpful when precise measurements need to be made.
