Don't go back-country without one
I tried Shimano's pins to fix my broke Shimano chain which kept it going for a week. I then decided to try SRAM's powerlink--500 miles later I still haven't had any problems with my chain; and I do put a lot of strain on it going up steep singletrack. I now carry 2 in my pack when riding; a chain break is the least of my concerns with one of these on hand.

Powerlink = Powerful!
I have used these powerlinks for 10 years. They make it so much easier to maintain your bike by easily popping off the chain. I have never had one fail! Note that I do replace it along with my chain about every 1 to 2 years depending on wear.

convenient
The SRAM power link system is great. Makes taking the chain on and off very easy. Bring an extra link on the trail and you can fix a broken chain.

The jumper cables of the bike industry
If you dont end up needing one yourself, you will run into someone on the trails who will need one. Very quick and easy to install without tools. I broke my chain once and was back in the saddle in less than 5 minutes because these came to the rescue. Weighing less than the mud on your bike, this piece is "worth its weight in gold" on the trails.

Having snapped...
Having snapped chains and swapped out alot of them, the power link is clearly indispensable. Yes you will have to size your chain after you pull it from the packaging, but having the link means not having to fool with a tool after breaking a chain or just doing an install, or pulling the chain off for maintenance or what ever, awesome product. Good price too.
