CANE CREEK

Cane Creek’s history starts in 1974. International bicycle components manufacturer Dia-Compe Japan established their U.S. headquarters in North Carolina. Their exact location was the Cane Creek Valley just outside of Asheville. Can you guess where they got their name? The company created their headquarters there to take advantage of the skilled local manufacturing workforce. The company already had expertise in making brakes but soon expanded the production ability of their facility. In 1989 they took on manufacturing, distribution, and sales of the RockShox RS1 suspension fork. The RS1 was the first widely available suspension fork in the world. The following year, Dia-Compe acquired the patent to a groundbreaking manufacturing process for creating headsets. Engineers inside the company started working with John Rader, the processes creator, to perfect their new threadless headset.

In 1992, USA employees of Dia-Compe USA bought the US portion of the company from Dia-Compe. From this separation, Cane Creek Cycling Components was born. The company was truly employee-owned and focused on predicting the next big trends in cycling. Soon the company released the AheadSet based on the original threadless headset they designed with John Rader. Cane Creek’s product offering has now expanded into much more than just headsets. The company now produces everything from brakes and suspension seat posts to titanium cranks and suspension. The Double Barrel Shock was the first mountain bike shock to feature a twin tube damper system. It was a Cane Creek Shock that brought this technology to the market.

For the last 40 years Cane Creek Bike has designed, tested, and hand-assembled premium bike components in Western North Carolina. The company prides themselves on quality and attention to detail. Cane Creek only makes a product if they truly believe in it. They are products they want to ride and are proud to claim as their own.
