BIKE WATER BOTTLES

No matter which discipline of riding you do, hydration is key. Whether you are riding a mountain bike during the height of summer in southern California, or training on a road bike during cold winters in Wisconsin, water is essential to keep you going. Tried and true, bike water bottles are an easy and extremely effective way to hydrate. No matter where you are or how you ride, chances are you have a water bottle attached to your bike. If not, I’m sure you find yourself in situations where you wish you did.

So why is drinking water so important when riding? Hydration allows your body to perform at the highest level. When you are not hydrated, you often feel dizzy and experience cramps. Water helps regulate your body temperature and lubricates your joints. Every cell in your body requires water to work properly. So basically, if you want to ride further, ride longer, and ride stronger, you need to stay properly hydrated.

There are two main types of water bottles, insulated and non-insulated. Non-insulated bottles are a cheaper option and usually weigh less. Insulated bottles tend to weigh more, but they do keep your water much colder. Insulation also takes up more internal volume, so an insulated bottle with the same outer shape as a standard bottle will carry less water. Many aero shaped water bottles also exist for use with time trial bikes. These bikes are often used for triathlon races where hydration is extremely important. The bottles are designed to slice through the air creating as little drag as possible. These unique shaped bottles use proprietary water bottle cages that are usually sold with the bottle.

It doesn’t matter if it’s hot or cold out. It doesn’t matter if you’re a road biker or mountain biker. It’s always important to stay hydrated. Make it easy on yourself and bring a water bottle.
