The Chameleon has long been Santa Cruz’s do whatever, go wherever, trail and adventure machine. For 2022, the Chameleon has truly become a genre-defying bike. It’s equally at home ripping singletrack, hitting up the local dirt jumps, exploring the backcountry on a bikepacking adventure, or just about anything else you can think of. The all-new frame has stayed true to its no-nonsense aluminum roots and is just as durable and bombproof as ever. Progressive geometry with a 65-degree headtube angle and long reach numbers paired with a 130mm fork and short stem provide a snappy and playful riding experience. Clearance for up to 29”x2.6” or 27.5”x2.8” tires means you can run just about any tire setup under the sun. A triple-bolt cargo mount on the downtube and a double-bolt mount on the seat tube lets you carry just about anything, making the Chameleon an excellent option for bikepacking-curious mountain bikers. Sliding dropouts let you adjust the geometry of the Chameleon, allowing you to make the bike longer and more stable or shorter and snappier. The sliding dropouts also let riders experiment with single-speed drivetrains if they so choose. A standard 73mm threaded bottom bracket and integrated headset keep maintenance simple. The Santa Cruz Chameleon is the bike that’ll always put a smile on your face and is ready for anything you want to throw at it. We implore Chameleon riders to tinker with their bike and make it their own because it truly is a versatile bike that can adapt to just about any rider's needs.

The R version of the Santa Cruz Chameleon 8 AL MX Bike comes with a SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain. This includes a cassette that has a hill-crushing 11-50T gear range that makes climbing and pedaling through technical terrain much easier. SRAM Guide T hydraulic disc brakes provide excellent stopping power so you can descend with confidence. RaceFace AR Offset 30 29/27.5" rims are paired with Maxxis Minion and Aggressor tires that can be set up tubeless for a smoother ride, better traction, and fewer flats. With the SDG Tellis Dropper Post, you'll be able to quickly lift and lower your saddle with the press of a lever.
