Now in its third rendition, the Santa Cruz Jackal has become one of the most recognizable dirt jump bikes in the world. Since its inception in 2004, the Jackal has evolved into a bike that will shred any pump track and boost any dirt jump it comes across. Overbuilt to last forever, you will have a hard time putting the jackal out of commission. Case a giant jump or drop a ledge to flat, the Jackal won’t let you down. Unlike many dirt jump frames, the Jackal also comes in two sizes to properly fit any rider.
You might be wondering what makes one dirt jump frame better than another. The answer is quite simple and that is geometry. The jackal has geometry that is optimal for shredding pump tracks and boosting jumps. The jackal has a 20mm bottom bracket drop and a 68.7-degree head tube angle. Compared to most dirt jump frames, the headtube is somewhat slack and the bottom bracket is on the lower side. This means the bike is extremely stable when pumping between rollers or jump transitions. The rear end comes in at a short 387mm which means the bike feels super playful and is easy to manual and spin. There is also a 25mm difference in the top tube length of the two sizes. This means the large size comfortably fits taller riders and the small size is small enough to allow short riders to easily maneuver it. The one size fits all philosophy that most companies take when it comes to dirt jump bikes isn’t always correct.
If you haven’t owned a dirt jump bike before and are considering getting one. Do it! Dirt jump bikes are rad and the bike control you learn from pumping and jumping directly translates to every other discipline of riding. When it comes to choosing a DJ bike, a stable and maneuverable bike is best for honing your bike control skills. One of the most stable and maneuverable bikes out there is the Santa Cruz Jackal.
